MemberThe remix decks confuse me endlessly. I wind up having samples looping endlessly out of sync with my main tracks all of the time. I tend to just use one-shot samples but I paid for a pack of dubstep drumbeats and I cannot see, to get the hang of the decks at all. There isn’t a lot of help available for them online either.

MemberIbrahams Key Finder is a free alternative if you want to save cash. Just google search for it. I have found that it does pretty much the same job as MIK but it may require that you analyze and tag your music before transferring to your iPad. Mixing in musical key can create some awesome transitions and quite often has helped me find songs that can be played side by side or mashed up.

MemberPretty much what Terry_42 said. I had a similar problem to yours I think when I first got my S2. Uninstall then re-install Traktor on your laptop and make sure you follow all of the steps exactly as they appear on screen.

MemberDoes anybody know where to find a tutorial on the Remix decks that would compensate for the Kontrol S2? The default set-up for the S2 is to have 2 Track Decks + 2 Remix Decks yet the only control I have for my remix decks is volume and the ability to mute/unmute samples while they loop.
I would like to map my S2 for more control of the Remix decks. I am considering contacting Native instruments for advise on this.

MemberThat fits pretty well, Si, Very nice.
I got the conversion and I’m using the free Keyfinder software. So far so good 🙂
I’ll just let Traktor analyze my BPM’s and set my own beatgrids to be sure they’re set up correctly. If either of you guys are mixing 2 songs with different BPM’s what way do you compensate for the Camelot wheel? As in, how much variance in BPM would you have Traktor’s “keylock” enabled before it starts to sound too flat or compressed? Or if you turn keylock off, how much variance in BPM before you have to assume that 5A is actually 6A etc?

MemberHee, do you know where to get a camelot wheel that matches Ibrihams key software?

MemberHee, does Ibrihams Key Finder analyze BPM?
October 17, 2012 at 12:21 pm in reply to: Not sure if it's my S2 or Traktor. Pressing play on one deck makes both decks play. #1013843Skosion
MemberProblem solved. Every combination of search terms I was trying were getting me nowhere. Thank you.

MemberI would like to map my Kontrol S2 so that I can double click shift to use the 4 hot cue buttons as hot cue 5-8… does anybody know if this is possible?

MemberI’ve been considering buying Mixed in Key. Is it really as accurate as you say? I read that the key analysis is only 40% correct…

MemberDalton, that sucks man… Luckily I have always kept all of my music very well organised to the point of being extreme. My music folder in Windows is 100% imaculate. Every artist has a folder, no duplicates, with a folder for each album, again no duplicates. Every single one of my mp3’s are named in the exact same format, 01 Song Name, 02 Song Name etc. Everything is tagged perfectly and not a single piece of album art is missing. If I obtain some new music and there is no album art available, I will even go to the extreme of making my own. I’ve basically just always stayed on top of it over the last 5 years or so and it’s never been much hassle really.
My problem is with Traktor and the organisation/tag system therein. It’s so messy. It’s not what I’m used to at all. I guess I could adopt a similar system to Gulli’s method.
Thanks for your replys, guys.

MemberIt would all depend on the kind of music you are playing, the atmosphere of the club or mix you are recording, and where you plan to place the drop. It’s a preference thing. Get some different vocalists to record a few samples of your name drop. If you don’t know any vocalists, get some of your friends to try it out. Take it into an audio editor and play around with it.
I’ve never made a DJ name drop, but something I like to do in production when working with vocals is to take the first part of a vocal sample (So for my own name drop I would chop out the “Sko”). I then flip/reverse the wavform and play it out smothered in lots of Reverb. I record the reverb for 8 beats/16 beats and then delete the “Sko” from the beginning (or “oks” as it’s in reverse) so what I am left with is the reverb effected pattern. I would then flip this again and put my namedrop on the end. You could even take things a step further and add pulse or drive or any other effects to further stylize the effect.
Ultimately, what I’m left with is a rising effect leading to my name drop. The effect will really help to blend the name drop into your mix as if it’s supposed to be there. You could time it to drop after 8 beats or 16 beats etc. or you could use the effect and name drop independantly especially if you feel like mashing a little or getting creative in some way.
Hope that makes sense! haha

MemberThanks for both of your replys. I am slowly but surely getting on top of all of this.
Hee Won Jung, the S2 has no default filter knob. You can hold shift to use the gain knob as the filter. You can also change the preferences so that the gain knob is the default filter and holding shift will allow it to control gain, which is what I prefer to use.
I figured the S2 would be great for me as I am only learning to mix. But after just a few days I am starting to realise that I need more control!! The S4 was sadly outside of my current budget. I am playing with some mapping options and trying to find the best system to work for me.
Thanks again.
