ParticipantThere’s a small club down the street from where I live. The DJ there literally plays the same tracks each week. As a music lover it’s real boring to listen to. But props to him, because the floor is always packed. He knows what the crowd wants to listen to.

ParticipantSometimes I jam with a buddy of mine. We both have an S4 each, hooked up to a mixer that is connect to his monitors. It’s when we are switching between us I find beatmatching most challenging (and fun). That’s when I really appreciate the skill and art of beatmatching. Traktor has so many features to assist beatmatching. You don’t need to use Sync when you have digital BPM display and you can see if you’re ahead or behind. And then push or pull the jog to line tracks up. You really don’t need your ears (in many cases) 🙂 Great post Luky

ParticipantBecause of my work as a designer I love MACs. But when it came to buying a laptop for DJing I didn’t have the coin to buy the MBP I wanted (the 15″). And a PC was looking favourable – though I really didn’t want to do that. What I did was buy a refurbished 13″ MBP from their online store. Saved me $300 off the original price. Runs perfectly. Yes it’s not the retina display model. But that doesn’t matter when you’re playing tracks. If I was designing on it that would be different. All of my software works fine.

Participant@ Hee Thanks for the hot cue advice. I would have never found that one. The reason I want to change the deck access is that I hate the size and location of the Deck C & D buttons. It’s the same for the ‘load’ buttons. I have long fingers. And most of the action is down at the bottom of the controller. I use the monitor cue buttons to assign tracks to a deck instead of the ‘load’ button. So I might as well control which deck I’m using with the same buttons. And Shift + Cue is not assigned to anything.

ParticipantDefinitely better than 40%. I’ve compared the BPM Traktor gives you with BPM of a track I’ve put through MIK. And it’s pretty accurate. As for the key analysis it is pretty bang on but not perfect. I have had situations where I’ve put two tracks together in the same key and they don’t sound good at all. I don’t think Traktor does key analysis. For the money, and the amount of music I have it has saved me a ton of time.

ParticipantI’m on a MAC and I’ve learned to do everything in iTunes. I’ve created smart lists by genre, BMP, artists, mood, styles etc. I can create mini-playlists in iTunes and practice them in Traktor. No problems!! I can then take that list and make playlists and collections within Traktor etc.
“Eg. I am looking at a song in the iTunes playlist integrated with Traktor and it shows a value of 0.000 in the BPM field. I find the same song in the Track collection and there is a value of 140.245 BPM. I then load the track into deck 1 and the BPM is analyzed as 140.010 BPM.”
This happens when I don’t properly analyze my music. What I’ve learned to do is use Mixed in Key to find the BPM and Key of the song. It updates the source file’s tags. So when I load the song in iTunes or Traktor the info is the same. It’s not perfect but it gets it right better than 90% of the time.

ParticipantWe had a great summer so far for EDM festivals. Every name has come through here. It’s been a blast.
@ Nicko … You’re right about Greek town.

ParticipantI use the Xone XD40
+ compact easily fits in my bag with my S4
+ price (their not $200 like some other head gear)
– sound could be punchier when the speakers are on loud
– the rotating cups are a bit fussy when I pull them between my neck and ear -
