ParticipantCongrats man, Hopefully a long era to continue!

ParticipantI’m doing potentially my first gig in 2 months time for my dads 50th, so I’m in the same boat but my advice would be play an array of things from 60’s classics to yesterdays chart this gives you a good indication on what the crowd likes from the music your playing then play similar stuff (same genre, artist) if they react better to some tracks. For example if mum is digging Abba and has brought sister, aunty and loads of others onto the dancefloor keep playing disco/dance stuff I’m sure you understand what I mean 🙂

ParticipantWell firstly can i say thanks for clearing that up 🙂 Secondly It all boils down to owners rights I believe and what license the pub/bar/venue has and what the terms of the license are. I think in terms of being legal it probably isnt because even if you own the track you don’t pay royalties each track you play in a set so this rules itself out, what would be interesting to know is how you become a legal dj and what the legalities are!

ParticipantWhat CAN they get you for then? If not a mobile DJ what is the BIG question? 🙂

ParticipantIt wasn’t a fact of getting it for serato but it was going to be supported then serato held it back further so now i’ve lost interest and am moving onto a new software and controller worse comes of it I can use VDJ which is something I’m fluent on.
I didn’t know that serato was better for beat gridding than traktor but I play 70’s/80’s tunes with new stuff and old classics from the 60’s too but I want a new challenge and something to play around with (remixes, mashups and more fxs). I suppose I will be beat gridding all my tracks if thats the case then :/

ParticipantI’m very unsure on this too, I’m just starting to get all my kit together before starting to gig and by reading the PPL link Don posted above it seems like every dj needs on of these.. I download and buy all my music from loads of different places and so own it all but by law I or anyone else still needs a ppl license, how much do these cost is the question and how long does it last (I assume a year.)

ParticipantHope so chuck, want to learn traktor looks awesome! Traktor is a piece of kit I let go under my nose as I wanted to try serato but it looks so much more powerful!
Shaun Pearcey
ParticipantYes this is what I meant and Yes i see each waveform is separate so more skill of the ear is needed to beat match, although i see you can use phase meters to help align the tracks better..

ParticipantI tried it out using the official traktor mapping and after about 4/5 minutes it bugged out so was no good I’d rather get the denon which was one of my main choices first, should have just gone with it but didnt :/

ParticipantThanks for your help guys but after more thought, I am set on the Denon MC3000 so can use traktor to record mixes! I will be looking into a more pro way of recording soon so thanks for your input chuck and everyone else. If I was to get the TM4 then the reloop tape would be a great option but if i can use the software im running to record my mix all I need to do is set my vlog camera up so i can record me 🙂
Audacity kept giving me weird error messages so I couldn’t edit the recordings without saving it first (or is this how it works?)

ParticipantIf its an hour $50 is a decent amount tbh though I need to get out gigging now to make sure i get paid more haha!
Shaun Pearcey
ParticipantBased on you getting there (fuel, transport), time given up i’d say around $50 sounds a decent amount and not too much 🙂
Shaun Pearcey
ParticipantSounds excellent, I’m trying to find vids on how to mix using traktor though as it seems most traktor users (not stereotyping now but most) use sync to beat match their tracks, so is this the same as any other dj software whereby you can see both waveforms together and manual beat match them? Is there a setting in the ui to do this?
Shaun Pearcey
ParticipantI hear you Terry,
It is defiantly a difficult decision, the thing with the Denon MC3000 is that if I don’t like traktor I can go on to use VDJ which is more expensive but does the job well! I am also considering the Terminal Mix 4 (Shouldn’t have brought the n4 with it not being serato fully supported yet). I have tried to play with the n4 mapping for traktor with no luck it bugged out very quickly so only got a few minutes with it, so cannot say I’ve tried it enough although by watching reviews and vids about it, it does look like a very powerful software!

ParticipantDude, do your research on the TM4 its a serious bit of kit if not that the Denon MC3000 or MC6000 are great traktor options.
