Participant@NDK..
I’ve been Djing now around 8 months, played a in a few bars and in one club. I use the Native Instruments X1 And Z1 combo USB’d to my Macbook Pro with just RCA outputs and the sound quality is still decent.. My other rig is A Denon MC3000 that I was using before the X1 and Z1 and again was using RCA cables in and out to the club/bar mixer and the sound quality was still very good.
I wouldn’t worry about future proofing things like outputs on your first controller as RCA can be used everywhere as its an industry standard input.. If you ever feel you may get stuck get RCA to Jack (TRS) Adapters these may be used in some bars/clubs mixers.
In terms of other Controllers check out the NUMARK MIXTRACK PRO 2 this is a bit of a beast and is compatible with Serato DJ and VDJ (Virtual DJ) I have a few DJ friends who gig regularly with this controller (IN CLUBS) and it seems the entry level controller to have Alongside the Pioneer DDJ-SB..
As for AUX outputs these are great for putting a backup into your system (I.E an iPod, Phone, iPad) that has its own level control and simple transition from the AUX straight back into the mix. (This is a great option for people who need a backup option, have this in mind you never know what may go wrong in the club/bar environment).
All in all its down to your preference, if you can figure out a software that works for you then carefully pick a controller you won’t outgrow in a few weeks then you will be in a good state to progress at a steady rate, not just going through smaller non efficient controllers every month.
Hope this has been helpful!

ParticipantOh okay maybe im asking for two different things here.. All i was wanting to know aside from what monitors to get is, can i use one of the monitors through my controller as a monitor on a gig/feedback to hear my mixing??
Thanks for suggesting AV40’s any others out there I can look at?

ParticipantThanks for your feedback 🙂 I would recommend checking out my latest best in house part 2 mix as thats got some seriously good house tunes in (and my best work yet).
As for track selection it was pretty varied and so I will take that on board and have a look into what will flow better together for my next mix, please check out my best in house part 2 though as its got a lil chart in there but overall is house and the keys are well synced together to create a decent mix (in my eyes anyway lol).
Thanks again 🙂

ParticipantI have already had bad thoughts on how it will sound mixing out on the mc3000 to the Traktor DJ app but as of now its only to be used as my backup option.. until the platforms are synced together! 🙂

ParticipantHey Clockwise! Thanks for responding to me, I have a Denon MC3000 DJ Controller thats hooked up to my laptop that uses Traktor Pro so I can always try hook the iPad up to the controller and have a go via live input. Will they work simultaneously though, my thoughts are not yet until they update the syncing of both platforms.
Thanks again for your suggestion I will have a go at some point when im free in the next few days and post my response on here 🙂

ParticipantI was starting to bring in bigger hits of the disco era around 10:30 and some people were interested, others not. I think the problem is that the venue I’m playing in is a quick pint place then move on to bigger and better things. So if anything It’s more of my job to keep bodies in the place. Next time I play the venue once I’m back from my holiday I will build up things a little faster and play more hits people want to hear, this may help improve things and keep people in the pub! Thanks for your advice as always its appreciated loads! 🙂
P.s I need help choosing good build up tracks for club/chart stuff.. Should I just be buying NOW/M.O.S compilations for these slower tracks as I seem to have a lot of dancefloor killer tracks just need tunes to get up to that stage, any advice on that? Thanks

ParticipantI only played till 12 and at the end I was playing house/club classics that seemed to get a few people interested but thats all, next time I do the set I will change it up more often and take more requests. Thanks for the advice, even people where saying it wasn’t me I was doing alright just people weren’t interested!

ParticipantWell that was interesting. I started out playing the set night which was 70’s/80’s disco/funk/groove and soul but no one was interested so I changed to chart as it was a younger audience even that didn’t work. Will try again in a couple weeks time but will build the set up faster, maybe that was my problem building up the tracklist to slowly? Its all a learning curve though so can’t be at fault for that.

ParticipantMy setup is simple, Magma DJ workstation on a table area located right next to the bar so i’m already at the heart of the party. 2 lights which I will work out where to put on saturday night, I will get there around 45 mins early to set everything up 🙂

ParticipantGot the MC3000 around a month ago now and bundled with Traktor Pro its very powerful, Traktor makes the controller tbh it gives your mixes that extra nudge over the competition with the Fx’s and remix decks. Simply an awesome combination in my eyes. Before I played around with an n4 and that isn’t anything on this. If you are to look at alternatives for this controller only other way is MC6000 but if im honest you need to get a play on one of these 3000’s first to see if its for you the price is around £329 everywhere and its built like a tank, only short coming in my eyes is the non standalone mixer feature but it can be used to play 2 rca inputs through so in an emergency its better than nothing!

ParticipantI’m a 70’s/80’s fan and tbh most of it goes down well at a party. 70’s play all the big disco hits (abba, chic, chaka khan, odyssey, MJ, so many others). YMCA always is a favourite amongst all people. As for 80’s is all the end of that disco era coming into more electronic club sounds (eurythmics, frankie goes to hollywood, madonna, More MJ, too many to put into words!) Literally thousands of sounds to choose from in that (60’s – chart of yesterday) category. Most people like the most well known stuff so if your unsure what to play, just play the biggest tunes of that decade can always be a good indicator if they want more of the same or not! 🙂
