ParticipantI flew with my S4 a few months back (from Canada to the UK). I took it in this bag:
http://store.djtechtools.com/mono-s4-bag.html
When I went to check my bags, I was told this was too large for carry-on (I was annoyed as they specifically advertised it as being ok for this – after I contacted the store, they removed that information) but since it contained a laptop and audio equipment they let you take it on board but they wouldn’t tag it so they said when I enter the plane, the staff may have to hold on to it until we land. They didn’t notice/mention anything when I boarded the plane. When I flew back I just mentioned that it had a laptop and audio gear (which is exempt from being counted towards carry on luggage) and it was the same situation but again no trouble getting it on the plane. There was no problem fitting it in the overhead bin. They did make me pull everything out and swabbed it for explosives when I went through customs on the first flight. I imagine it would be more trouble if it was in a flightcase instead of a soft bag.Steelo

So true!

ParticipantHit record every time you have a mix. Ever had one of those times when you thought ‘I wish I had recorded that?! If you’re not thinking about specifically making a demo that day you will be less stressed and may be more spontaneous. Have some fun with it!

ParticipantI was reading that the software will use more cpu load when new features (such as the remix decks in this case) are added…whether you are using them or not…

ParticipantAs Terry said above, I’ll bet they are just selling out. Vestax seem to do things right so I doubt there’s any issues with the product.

I do have an S4. I have a mid 2010 15″ 2.66ghz i7 8gb ram Macbook Pro. I’m pretty sure I have my S4 latency set to about 8.7ms which is about as low as I can go for rock solid performance. I feel like its all driver related.

ParticipantIts strange how there used to be much more consistency with performance. Now it seems all over the map. Some peoples improved with 2.5 (for me, the lowest but not as low as 2.0.3) others got worse. I’m intrigued to know why theres so much more variance these days.

ParticipantAfter having a play I must say I’m very impressed with the quality of the Denon. They are agressively going after that market which will hopefully make Pioneer realise they need to slash some $$$ off their CDJ’s. I still question which one I would buy simply because Pioneer is still the industry standard?

ParticipantI didn’t even think about sound compression when it comes to the EQ and hadn’t even thought about setting the 4 band EQ (kinda assumed it was NI’s version of Xone squished in to 3 bands)…I’ll look that up. On my bedroom speakers I can hear a pretty clear difference and the lower down the list you go, the less harsh and coloured the music sounds. I guess I thought that instead of compressing the audio, that it wasn’t boosting as much. Something I will look in to…

ParticipantI used RE for ages as previously it was the most accurate but things have changed now. I chose to buy MiK as its the “biggest” of all the software options so development will be ongoing and I’m sure if someone discovers some better key detection algorithm, MiK will be the first to get it (I hope…)

ParticipantThe specs alone will never really help too much as they are all almost spec’d the same. I’d be interested to see the reference response diagram results for various cards but I can’t see anything like that happening as almost all interfaces would be considered acceptable. With the volume and other factors in clubs you will find the sound quality isn’t quite as noticeable unless its a top notch system cause when its loud it colours the sound a lot. You will notice if its absolutely terrible though. A good set of studio monitors would give a more accurate test.

ParticipantI should really set the example as I’m in a position of power…but that’s what delegating’s for. I’ll let my worker monkeys do my bidding.

ParticipantI wouldn’t go near any of the Pioneer controllers (at this stage). They’ve only been in the digital realm for a short time and whilst their controllers have that familiar Pioneer layout, features-wise they are like using a basic mixer and basic CDJ’s (whats the point of going digital if it doesn’t offer more + isn’t more compact?) and the build quality is similar to their entry level gear. I guess it would best suit people who are familiar with Pioneer and don’t wan’t to venture too far outside the box.

ParticipantMany of us “old schoolers” had to learn things the hard way by mostly teaching yourself as people were more hesitant to share knowledge. You got everything you need to get going in this course and $50 is a small investment for what can be a very rewarding and fulfilling hobby or even career.
