As a rule I usually say its best to mix the two songs as long as you can before cutting. Obviously for some genres this isn’t possible for long before you gotta cut or use one of the above techniques. For Tech & deep house I often let the track completely play out.

Those labels only buy the rights to sell the tracks in selected countries. Thats often why you will find the same song released under several labels.

I had a similar issue with a bad MP3 from a reputable site (I won’t name names but one of the big guys) and I just emailed them. They gave me a credit towards future purchases. From my experience if you put the pressure on, they will cave eventually.

Yeah you’re absolutely right, the Vancouver electronic scene sucks. Your options are top 40, Skrillex or watching UFC. Way too many meatheads here. Lots of people hype up Van but to be honest theres nothing special about it at all…especially not the music.

Damn If only I had the cash and the ability to get the time off work and could head that way. Nothing decent is happening with the music scene in Vancouver.

Its down to the drivers for the modern sound cards at the end of the day (to my knowledge). The performance of the laptop does come in to play too. Certain anti virus software can (sometimes quite significantly) affect you laptops performance. If you do the research, you will will find that all the info is is out there. Look for software that has an option to disable real-time protection when you need more performance. Zeobit make great software.

He’s a funny guy too. Great sense of humour and doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously.

You can do what terry said above, to slim it down but do you really need to? 4ms is lower than most people can go and the difference would most likely be negligible. I’m running my MBP at about 8.7ms and that is more than fast enough for mixing and mid-level scratching

Glad to hear you like it. I’m curious why it took a few days to get it running smoothly? The S4 is basically plug and play. The setup wizard takes care of basically all the settings. Was it a case of setting latency or not being familiar with Traktor preferences?

Check out this recent DDJT blog entry:

It may be more aimed towards clubs but getting bar gigs is usually much easier in my experience.

To each their own. No judgement here. I enjoy mixing on all mediums. I love the organic feel of vinyl, the ease of CDJs and the possibilities for creativity of digital. I say embrace the future buy don’t forget your roots.

You can buy super cheap, chinese-made no name speakers on ebay for next to nothing. The sound quality and build/durability may not be great but they will get the job done for a few gigs (hopefully) until you can afford something better. I would suggest renting some decent speakers until you can save enough money to buy a decent pair.

Terry how did you find Mountain Lion affected the general performance for your Macs? Faster, slower or anything worth noting? Did you find it affected cpu load or anything with Traktor and VDJ? I run Snow Leopard and can’t really find any legitimate reason to update except for self gratification of knowing I have the latest OS…I’m terrible. I’m not sure if I’m talking myself in or out of the idea of upgrading.

The Twitch and the S2 are both excellent controllers. You’ll want to make sure your beatgrids are perfect if you get the Twitch as the touch sensitive strip nudge thingy isn’t great so completely manual beatmatching isn’t great on it either…that being said, as long as you do the prep work, jogwheels may not be essential for your workflow. The S2 is very tightly integrated with Traktor and you do have the advantage that if you decide not to use the jogs to mix, you can map them to control some really cool effects.
