ParticipantA beginner shouldn’t even be thinking about this yet. MIK is for assisting with advanced harmonic mixing techniques, not for beginners to use as a crutch. Whilst it may make things easier, this is not the way to improve your skills.

ParticipantYou may have to buy a better soundcard. Something like the Native Instruments Audio 6 if you’re on a budget.

ParticipantI think 2012 has been a pretty bad year for most genres. Especially electro house.
Steelo
ParticipantWell the correct answer would be to get your main levels correct first (out of the red!) then set your record volume. -10db (with the headroom setting in preferences set to 0) is generally a reliable setting. Then set your record volume.

ParticipantI saw this the other day. Great write up. Definitely one for the oldschool crowd.

ParticipantCheck out this article:
http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2010/11/6-budget-dj-sound-cards/It was written a while ago but I know some of these would still be available. The NI Audio 2 is a go-to budget model thats very popular.

ParticipantThis sounds a little fishy. I hope you’re not asking for people to do anything piracy related…
Steelo
ParticipantWhat particular features were you referring to? The remix decks?
Whilst its a cool concept, I’m sure it will have problems to begin with and its clearly a consumer product posing as pro gear. I’m liking the direction where its going though.August 10, 2012 at 5:47 am in reply to: Distortion sound when I use USB sound card on MAC :( #1009447Steelo
ParticipantYou’re wondering why a $2 soundcard doesn’t perform well?
Hmmmm
in the interest of trying to help and keep my flaming to a minimum I’d say its probably a driver related issue. Not every soundcard (especially el cheapo’s) will be compatible with a mac either.
Steelo
ParticipantBe careful if you’re going to play trance as many top 40/commercial crowds wont dig it unless you throw on something familiar like Sandstorm

ParticipantI don’t find the apple codecs particularly nice sounding but I haven’t tried any of their lossless stuff. The latest Lame codec is much better for MP3 in my opinion. I generally stick to 320kbps MP3’s as I’ve been in very few venues that actually have decent enough sound to really hear the difference…I’m still on the fence whether WAV or other lossless formats even sounds better.

When I wake up in the morning I piss excellence.

ParticipantI would say probably not a great idea to display your playlists. Maybe post a youtube link to a song here or there that you’re really digging. That way you’ll engage any one watching but not give too much away.
Steelo
ParticipantThe midi fighter 3D and the Kontrol F1 are completely different products (although with some tweaking you can make the MF 3D control the remix decks quite well). Don’t even think about buying either of these until you actually buy something you can mix with and know what you’re doing. Crawl before you walk.
