However I am not fond of Behringer, they sound pretty harsh and have a lot of hiss. You do get a lot of volume for little buck though and you might need an RCA to TRS converter anyway (RCA over long distances is not good anyways).I must admit I’ve never had much faith in Behringer either but I was quite impressed with these speakers considering the price point. They really do seem to be making a effort to improve their quality of products too.

Where can I find a good summary of the classic underground dance tracks of the last few years?
Maybe this era’s Chemical Brothers / Daft Punk / etc. has come out and I don’t even know it.
Its hard to cratedig like this. Beatport top 10 and Hypemachine are great but their focus seems to die past one or two months.I haven’t totally been living under a rock – but I have been pretty casual about getting new music the last few years. My cratedigging was listening to nice online radio (KCRW, SRRadio & ETN.fm) and taking notes when something really stands out.
My most active DJ periods were in 2001 and briefly in 2009 before my Torq system broke.
I have some recorded sets from around 2001 – and tons of songs between now and then I want to mix – but I don’t want to debut by posting dated material. Does it make sense to post a killer mix of the 2007-era Deadmau5 style house I was listening to in grad school?Anybody else dealt with this problem of catching up? How did you handle it? Suggestions appreciated.
Hey bud I just got an email from Beatport that may be of assistance. Check out their link:

ParticipantHi David, if you’re looking for great sound and quality on a budget, you can’t go past the Behringer Eurolive series either the B212 (12″ woofer) or B215 (15″ woofer). I would personally go the larger speakers so you can accommodate larger groups or rooms.

ParticipantPerfect answer!

ParticipantI’m surprised anyone is able to find 20+ decent tunes worthy of playing a week. I throw a lot in my cart and after listening a few times would be lucky to walk away with more than a handful. I feel like the quality is in a slump at the moment.

ParticipantYou can 100% run the F1 with your controller. The F1 just plugs in to a USB drive on your laptop and is natively supported by Traktor so its plug and play (for Mac…I think you still need to quickly download drivers for Windows). It runs direct through your software so it will work with almost any set up. Its a really fun add-on! I’m loving mine!

ParticipantObviously the less tracks you get, the easier and less time it will take to get to know them well. Just be prepared to spend the time listening to them and mixing frequently. Put them on your ipod in a “new tracks” playlist. Have them playing on your stereo when you can. Perhaps be a little more strict with what you download. I’m sure if you stick to downloading them legally you won’t be getting 50 a week…

ParticipantI feel lost if I don’t dig for tunes after a month let alone a few years!
Depending on what you mix you could always try checking out the tracklists from the last few years of the “clubbers guide to…” or any release for that matter, by Ministry of Sound. For house, deep house and disco check out the last few years of Hed Kandi releases. That will give you an idea of what was big in the clubs.Steelo
ParticipantDo your research of bars/clubs you want to play at. Throw together a few demo’s to give away. Go to that place where you want to play and find out who is running the event. Speak to them and ask for a set. Give them a demo. You may want to arrive early in the night while its still quiet so you have time to chat. You may want to butter them up with a few drinks or something.

ParticipantBad form. Do your research before booking someone. They would’ve still had to pay him (I would not accept anything less if I was Mark Farina) so not only was it rude, it was a bad business decision. That’s what you get in places like Vegas where its all about money.

ParticipantYou don’t need management unless you’re a big well known DJ that is playing lots of regular sets. Get rid of the management and do it yourself.

Horrible stuff, I wouldn’t playing anything below 320k myself, but 192 would probably be ok on lesser systems, still Re-rip your tunes to 320k.
There’s still plenty of mp3 stores (consumer not DJ specific) that offer 128’s.

ParticipantKey detector?
Is there a possible DDJT’s app in development?

ParticipantYou will have to spend more to get what you want. Your budget only allows for something cheap and basic.

On another note… a random question really… does anyone know any good djay pools that have a large collection of good soulful deep house. I love listening to it but its hard to find even a well set up site (that is legit) to pull from. Thanks everyone for your help.
Peace!
DeeJay Max Gabriel
I’m yet to find any DJ pools that have anything other than mainstream music. You’ll have to stick to Beatport, Track It Down, DJ Download, Traxsource etc
