ParticipantThis list seems legit to me. I’m not sure why anyone would think otherwise. These are all superstar DJs, many of them have been around for years and also own record labels. Electronic music (trance in particular) is absolutely massive in much of Europe and Asia.

ParticipantThe new Macs are really nice. Expensive though. I know that MBP’s aren’t exactly cheap any way but damn! I cant wait until solid state hard drives go down in price.

Beatport is dead to me now. Has been for the last few months. Traxsource, Juno, Track It Down, DJ Download are all so much better. All Beatport has is crap commercial electro or tech house thats all the same. The genre tags are way off all the time too.

ParticipantIts a dubstep/dnb/hip hop night and you’ve been asked to stick to dubstep so the question is what tunes to play, not what genre right?

ParticipantWhoops my bad. Phil is right. I was thinking you were writing comments the other way around.

ParticipantThere’s a setting in Traktor, think its under the decks preferences, to reset pitch after load (or similar). Play around with this and I think that will fix your problem.

ParticipantI’d be more than happy to lose sets if its playing music I don’t enjoy playing. Some may not agree but I would rather play awesome music to an empty club than play crap music to a full club…unless you’re looking to score lol

Participant15″ Macbook Pro. I would definitely recommend saving the extra to get one, whether new or second hand. Much less hassle and more reliable. If you are going to stick with Windows (which I personally would not recommend), you will still need to spend a bit of cash to get a decent machine. Cheap laptops have cheap parts that gives you poor performance. The cheapest would be to build your own, either completely custom or through a brand like Dell (although I hear some Dell components are questionable)

ParticipantI’m not 100% sure but there is probably some option in itunes to overwrite existing tags. Just turn this off.

Had someone request a hip hop song 30 minutes before closing time when I was deep into playing a house set… No way was that going to happen that late in the night, but I’m not going to explain to her the whole process of programming and how that would be a train wreck at this point in the night.
This is the key.

ParticipantThis particular issue has been hit and miss. Some people experienced more ram usage, for others it dropped (myself included). If your CPU load increases then yes you may get more audio drops and pops. It is to be expected that perhaps a slight increase would happen as there was some significant features added (the remix decks being the main one). It seems quite sensitive to latency changes. Only a slight increase in latency may drop your ram usage significantly.

ParticipantYour examples above are certainly interesting…Daft Punk indie? Plump DJs underground? Obscure songs making the Beatport top 100 or even being on Beatport for that matter?
Mainstream: Needs no explaining. Explained perfectly by everyone above.
Indie: May even be reasonably popular but haven’t sold out or given in to the commercial giants. More of a ideal than anything.
Underground: May be less known or unknown outside of that music scene. The purists of that genre. Success isn’t measured in popularity or commercial success.
Obscure: D-Jam got this one perfect.Just my 2 cents. Apologies if I cam across rude, not my intent at all. I always think I’m right but can admit it lol

ParticipantHells yeah Distance and Darkside are awesome. Definitely recommend. I wouldn’t really call the heavier stuff “American” dubstep as there are plenty of UK dubstep producers making that type of sound. Also the vast majority of dubstep that doesn’t come from the UK, comes from Canada (Skrillex is the main exception). The sound you’re referring too would be, for lack of a better word, the “oldschool” sound – which is making a comeback in the UK. Many of the pioneering dubstep producers are turning back to the darker as opposed to heavier sound.

ParticipantYou basically need to tell him exactly what you need from him to be able to play your set. ie x amount of power outlets, 2 CDJs etc

ParticipantBot all dubstep is hard. There is a lot of different forms. Theres some really great reggae infused stuff thats pretty chilled but sets a good atmosphere. like D-Jam said, theres some great darker stuff too that isn’t too hard but has a different type of energy…perfect for a warmup set.
