Back in the vinyl days I got to know my tunes really well cause it was too expensive to buy more than a few records each week but now there’s so much music it can get harder. I used to know what tune it was from hearing just the first snare or kick of the track. I’ve started using the comments section in Traktor to take notes of anything I may need to know or suggestions for what to mix it with.
With a bit of knowledge about music structure and using your common sense you can usually assess on-the-fly what to do next.

Not really a fan but I have to admit its and easy way to escalate their career. I’ve seen a few here and there and almost all of them were faking it whilst playing a premixed CD…

If you can midi map it so you can change which deck it focuses on then in theory yes. Not the ideal setup but possible if you can map it.

You will need a complete DVS setup (Timecode vinyls, audio interface, cables + software) so yes either Serato Scratch Live, Traktor Scratch Pro (my favourite) or theres a few other brands which are cheaper. The timecode vinyls just give instructions to the software so they are useless without the rest of the hardware and software.

An “anything goes” sweatfest that doesn’t play any mainstream…probably with a no dubstep policy.

    1) If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is and 2) I would recommend getting some REAL DJ headphones. These are overpriced hipster garbage. Those things above are hideous.

A friend of mine got me on to Traxsource but when I first saw that hideous grey colour and crappy looking design I was a little hesitant to give them my credit card details. Thought it might have been some dodgy scam site or something. They definitely need to update!

You need to use your EQ’s to try counteract this. Reduce the bass of the song you’re mixing in. Reduce the treble and mid, although generally not to the same extent as the low. This is just one of the many skills you must learn. Keep working on it!
Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do about your predicament of having to keep the volume low although using studio monitors is the best route as they are designed to be used close by.

Don’t play all your bangers at once. Start more mellow, tease the dancefloor with a few familiar samples but make them wait a bit. When you do drop something big, it will tear the roof off.
Also don’t get too silly with effects. New DJs often get over the top with this…not every track needs a flanger!

EDM is still in its infancy in the US. Its exploding now because there wasn’t really as much of a scene there (with a few exceptions such as Detroit Techno). Its just the next big thing but as D-Jam stated above, it will come and go. If more people are listening to dance music then thats a good thing, as far as I’m concerned, even if the quality isn’t so high. To be honest, the US will never “control” EDM…Europe will always be the leader. Lets not forget that the vast majority of superstar DJs such as Guetta, Tiesto, SHM etc are all European. Just because a lacklustre music scene is exploding in the US, it doesn’t mean it will ruin the scene everywhere else.

USB ports are backwards compatible so everything will still work. Only 2 USB ports though. I’m curious about these thunderbolt ports. The tech sounds good but they could end up like firewire which has basically disappeared now.
