I was fortunate to catch an open box sale. VCI-400 EGE for the price of an S4.
Done!I think I have a bit of controller envy right now. Very nice.

ParticipantI’ll check this out tonight. I have to admit I’m a bit on the anti Guetta train at the moment but perhaps this will swing me…

I’ll second that…or get a better controller that you can plug your decks straight in to.

ParticipantThis is a great controller that would be a good investment. It shouldn’t be too difficult to learn on and you won’t outgrow it any time soon. If you run Itch then Vestax is the way to go, in my opinion. the layout is pretty standard for DJ equipment and you will figure out the other features with the manual, youtube and a little research.

ParticipantI’m guessing that people are worried its not a legit copy. I’ve got two licences myself that I can’t shift either.

Damn I miss vinyl shopping! Its so nice to have something tangible with the music on it too.

ParticipantThere’s definitely nothing wrong with CDJs but they are a much more expensive setup and aren’t nearly as flexible as midi controllers. For CDJs that wont be outdated anytime soon ie supports HID, USB sticks etc (think Pioneer 2000/900 or possibly the Denon 2900/3900) it will cost you a small fortune. If you are looking for something similar then go for something with better jogwheels which is the only real advantage besides playing CDs – you’ll find most of the people using these don’t even play CDs with them now though

ParticipantYou will have to input the track names manually before you rip them. To be honest you and 99.9% of people will not be able to hear the difference between a 320kbps MP3 and something with less/no compression. Save your hard drive space and rip in 320. If you use a ripper with the most current LAME encoder, your music will sound excellent.
Hmmm maybe you can’t edit them in LE sorry…come to think about it, I’ve never used anything but the full versions of Traktor 1 & 2. The upgrade is only like $70 or $80 so definitely do that.Steelo
Participant3 Articles about this, from DJTT. They go back in time as you go down.

ParticipantI would/did go for the S4 as I use Traktor (in my opinion none of the other brands come close).
My second choice would probably have been A Vestax VCI400. This would require manual mapping but its a fantastically designed and built controller.June 15, 2012 at 9:41 am in reply to: Really Need help with Tagging Track info in Traktor 2 LE #1006243Steelo
ParticipantYes you can tag WAVs in Traktor.
When you say CD rips…what are you referring to? Ripping means you are copying the audio from the CDs to create an MP3, WAV etc so these would be treated the same way as your other music files. If you fill in all the tags before you rip them (in your ripping software), you should see this info in Traktor, itunes etc.Steelo
ParticipantYou can edit all these things with just the mouse/trackpad/keyboard in all brands of DJ software (as far as I’m aware). In fact its generally easier than doing in with the controller (many controllers not having functions to do this either).
June 15, 2012 at 9:33 am in reply to: How to best utililize playlists in Traktor when playing multi genres #1006241Steelo
ParticipantI generally have a folder with tracks that are roughly in a similar BPM range ie house, electro, breaks and organise them in to subfolders ie peaktime bangers, cheese, fillers, hard, euphoric etc. I used to just break them up by specific genre/sub genre but then you may find it more work to be spontaneous with mashing genres a bit.
Steelo
ParticipantThats a pretty common issue with sync that can be quite irritating. The track is resetting to where its pitch fader is set as opposed to being sync’d with the other track. For a workaround you will have to keep the other deck playing (fader off) and reduce this down/up to where you want the track to be.
Steelo
ParticipantI would have to disagree with Terry…S4 hands down for Traktor. No other controller is integrated as tightly. The proprietary midi communication is super tight, even with higher set latency. It may not have as rugged build as some other controllers nor the best jogwheels out there but is still very decent.
