ParticipantPeople need to grow up. Who cares what you use. I’m not really down with this whole pre-recorded set thing that seems to be happening more often but I have seen some pretty amazing shows where the visuals really elevate the music and I acknowledge that this would not be possible without pre-programming everything.

ParticipantIf you played a classics set, it could really get the dancefloor warmed up well. DJ Luck & MC Neat will probably just play all new stuff.

ParticipantIKEA stuff always manages to work out well. If you got money to burn, there’s a company called Sefour that make some really nice DJ and production specific stands and furniture. I know there’s a bunch of UK stores that stock it.

ParticipantMinistry Of Sound have a 3CD compilation of garage classics. Could be worth checking out.

ParticipantNothings worse than a bad “MC” who doesn’t know when to give it a rest.

ParticipantI guess it depends on what type of DJ you are. If you’re not a commercial DJ (nothing wrong with that by the way – its just not for me) then there’s a line you must draw about how cheesy you will go. I’d much rather drop an underground bomb that gets the dancefloor pumping that whore myself out to playing some cheddar.

ParticipantHe loops the song thats playing then just starts playing the other song. Its plausible but definitely a little cliche. Its not something you want to do every mix or even every set either but it can make quite a dramatic buildup in a peak time set. I often find it used more frequently by DJs playing commercial music as the punters dancing to these sets typically have smaller attention spans so you gotta keep things moving.

People these days wants instant gratification and don’t want to learn techniques that could take a while to master. Whilst its not a particularly hard skill to learn, its not super easy when you’re starting out. To get really good at it (match beats quickly and perfectly in sync) does take time and practice.

ParticipantFor the basics of mixing its not really any different. Its still Traktor 2 after all. Not a new version, just a major update.
Steelo
ParticipantThe bugs are usually more with the software than the controller unless its a completely new design.

ParticipantWell the school would be paying to hire some other (probably much worse) DJ so theres nothing wrong with getting paid for it. Find out what the going rate is and go for it. Just express your interest and give them a decent deal. Be prepared to play a mix of genres, mostly top 40 I would say.
Steelo
ParticipantJust export your preferences before you install it. Its really easy to import them and not have all your settings too messed up.
Steelo
ParticipantWell dance music consists of more genres that just house so thats not exactly a fitting term for the music in general.
Since I’ve known about it, it was and still is just referred to as ‘dance music’ and that works just fine for me. I don’t think I’d ever heard the phrase ‘EDM’ until a year ago.Steelo

Whether you choose to add it or not, promoters will add it or delete it all the time regardless. Sometimes I get dj Oddity, sometimes I just get Oddity, if there are two of us we’ll probably get DJs OtherGuy & Oddity, but maybe not. As long as they get the actual name part right I could care less if someone adds the “dj” or not…
I feel the same as Tony. I don’t want DJ anywhere near my name(s). I make sure the promoter is always 100% aware of how to print my name.
