ParticipantI play around with controllerism at home but it requires so much preparation that its not really too easy to pull off in the club without a tonne of time spent on it. A short routine that’s easy to throw in to or start off a set can be cool though.

ParticipantLook up a group of Aussie DJs called the Bang Gang. This is pretty much what they do and without anything digital or cue points or anything just a bunch of dudes with CDJs or turntables.
Steelo
ParticipantIts pretty straight forward. Just practice setting it up and tearing it down in a hurry cause sometimes you’ll have only a small amount of time to switch over and DVS can be slight pain if there.s cables everywhere…particularly if the other DJ is running Serato DVS. Make sure that if you use the multicore cables that you know how to plug them in correctly.

ParticipantOnce upon a time if there was trance music played in Sydney, I was usually involved. Going back a bit now though. My tip would be just do your thing and have fun with it. And try to schmooze with Luck & Neat. You never know, maybe you’ll end up scoring a gig from it…or atleast going to a rager of an after party.

ParticipantCongrats Terry. Always keeping it real.

ParticipantStick with your real name Mr Powers.

ParticipantI’d say it sounds like whatever adaptor he used was busted or incorrect and you weren’t playing the whole audio signal. Get an ipod or whatever and plug in earphones…now pull the plug out just slightly and you will hear part of the audio but other parts are missing. Same kinda thing. That’s what I figure it was. Or you were playing a stereo signal through what should have been a mono signal so it only played one channel. That’s my best guess.

ParticipantHold on! You don’t want phono…you want line. It sounds like you had it plugged in to phono when it should’ve been line. If that’s not the problem then I’m not really sure. Maybe try a different cable too? If not then its got to be something with your audio coming in way too hot. You could also try changing the mixer eq settings in Traktor. Xone will be the least bass heavy. I usually use Xone or the one above it for a bit more oomph.

ParticipantI’m very happy with my purchase. No looking back!

ParticipantI would say its simply someone who is getting paid to DJ. I don’t think it necessarily even has to be your primary source of income. I would say you would have to play somewhat regularly. A once off paid set for a friends birthday doesn’t really make you a pro.

ParticipantHas your friend considered building a custom laptop? This can often end up cheaper and then you can make it a dedicated dancefloor destroyer.
Steelo
ParticipantIt allows all basic mixing functions so in a nutshell yes it is fine.

ParticipantStill awesome. The next Traktor update that should be released any day now (from what I hear) adds a tiny bit more functionality and improved workflow (as well as a lot of bug fixes and improvements for the software too). I wish I had 2 of them now so you could mix tracks together.

ParticipantNo worries bud. Think of this gig as a good experience but more of a “bread and butter” set than anything (for lack of a better word) glamorous or club-like.

ParticipantCheck this article out first to get your Traktor settings correct ie the maximum sound level without distortion.
http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/03/traktor-gain-sound-level-settings/It sounds like you may have the mixer channel, you’re connected to, set as phono instead of line. It must be line for anything except vinyl turntables.
Failing that….
Don’t touch the EQ’s for that mixer channel unless necessary. Start with the mixer gain all the way at the bottom and slowly raise the gain (fader off) in your headphones whilst watching the VU meter. I’ve never had any problem with it sounding like this. You can slightly twaek the mixer EQs if totally necessary but it shouldn’t be as you are adjusting the EQs in Traktor. -
