ParticipantALWAYS play with the power adaptor and crank your performance settings up to maximum. If the adaptor is not an option then I would put it halfway between performance and battery life and hope you don’t have to play a marathon set. Your laptop will cut performance when its not plugged in.

ParticipantNot every set can go perfectly and atleast it was stuff that was more or less out of your control. This won’t be the last time so just concentrate on the music. Don’t let it discourage you.

ParticipantThats a damn good deal. SSD seems to be the way to go to increase speed and performance…they are just so friggin expensive.

ParticipantI love Apple but I feel like that itunes (although very good) could be much better compared next to everything else they do.

ParticipantLogic is up there with the best production software. The price seems a bit low though…make sure its not pirated and comes from a reputable source. I haven’t bothered to do the currency conversion as I’m feeling way too lazy on the couch today so I could be wrong.

ParticipantYou do know that PvD isn’t using all this equipment right? This is a booth set up so 3 or even 4 DJs can play without any hassle of changing gear and unplugging things. PvD uses Ableton for most of his sets and almost exclusively controllers now…did you not notice the heap of controllers + keyboard in front of him? I doubt he’s even touching that CDJ in this set.

ParticipantIt depends on what sets you want and what you feel would be appropriate for the venues you approach. Go have a drink there and suss out the place. Make a few shorter mixes and put them all on one CD that showcases different genres and styles.

ParticipantIf you restore your old Dell to factory then slim it down then maybe it will run without issues. Just don’t push it too hard and have a CD/ipod/record or something you can quickly play, should it fail…and don’t let that power cord come out!

ParticipantThere’s a tutorial from DJTT’s Ean Golden. Search for it on youtube.

ParticipantSound advice there. D-Jam is the wisest.

ParticipantCool dude. I’ve been in Whistler for a while now, making trips down to Vancouver every now and then but the EDM scene here seems to be really behind the rest of the world. I hear Ottawa is a good time.

ParticipantFor starting out or doing events that aren’t as loud as some club DJ booths, el cheapo’s will more than suffice. Once you step up to large clubs you will need a decent set.

Ive said it probably a ton of times on this forums…but lets be honest here…any DJ can grab all the latest songs and choons and make everyone dance because they know the tracks….but really anyone can do this…Its finding the gems that no one knows about that you can really tear the roof off and make people go ballistic.
Do you want to be that DJ that plays the same tracks as 1/2 the DJs in your city? Or are you willing to spend the copious amounts of time sifting through blog sites, soundcloud and other musical resources to find that track that no one else has.
On the DJTT blog they coined the DJs who do this as having “Levels Syndrome”. Feel free to use that one…I have been.

ParticipantI share similar displeasure with several features of itunes but its really only downhill from there on a mac. I miss the good ol’ winamp days. Epic skins and all that.

ParticipantTry out Virtual DJ home (free) or the free demo of Traktor. I don’t believe Itch is offers a free demo.
