ParticipantNew Macbook Pro running Traktor 2.5 + Pioneer DJM-2000 + 4 CDJ-2000’s (running in advanced HID mode) + 2 Kontrol F1’s + Kontrol X1 + 2 x Technics SL1210 MK5G. Assuming money is of no concern. Obviously too many players for how many channels you’ve got but unlimited “pro” options.

ParticipantGet your old man to do it. I remember no one would give me the time of day when I was younger. Try for $200 off which will probably be too much and bargain from there. If you can’t get too much of a discount then get them to throw in some decent cables or headphones or whatever you can squeeze out of them. I don’t know what shops are near you sorry dude.

ParticipantAdvanced mode HID support for CDJ 900/2000…now everyone can stop complaining.
Steelo
ParticipantIts pretty unlikely as its a similar design and mostly the same guts as a few of their other controllers so I’d say they might just be in high demand.
Steelo
ParticipantWhat you’re looking for is HID support for the CDJs, which the 400’s don’t have with Traktor (I’m not sure if they are capable at all?). I would definitely choose Traktor over something like Mixvibes. I personally use Traktor and find it to be the best for what I do (standard mixing but love playing around with a few controllers + use timecode CDs and vinyl). Native just dropped the price to get more market share so don’t let that worry you.

ParticipantI experienced the same frustrations. The import/export solves almost everything but there are a few small things that you may have to adjust at times but it saves you having to race through like a million settings.

ParticipantIs your latency set too low for your laptop to handle? Try raising it and see what happens.

ParticipantThe CDJ 800 is fairly old now so there’s a possibility it could be pretty beat up but they do have a decent life span. the question you should be asking is do you want to stick to vinyl or CDJs or do both?
Steelo
ParticipantYou could have the best of both worlds. Run Traktor with an S4 and control 2 channels with timecode, either CDJs or vinyl turntables.

ParticipantI spend hours and hours every week searching blogs for new tunes. You will always find links or artists that lead you down new paths. If I find a track by an artist I like then I will search for more of their tracks. Check out what that artist is spinning. Most websites ie Beatport have a link to their play lists. Check out the other artists on the same label. For techno and minimal I usually find better music when I stay away from the larger sites like Beatport.

ParticipantYou will have to have a play with Traktor (there’s a free demo on their website) and see what you think. To me its a no brainer but it all comes down to personal preference…despite what the mixvibes website says, its not the “most advanced DJing software there is”.

Participant…no one is selling one. It seems a little obvious to warrant answering but I did anyways. There’s plenty of online DJ shops selling them. With DJ products that are this new you won’t be able to find any deals that are more than a few bucks discounted.

ParticipantAlways try to negotiate a lower price whether its DJ gear or a new TV or whatever. A few years ago I worked in an electronics superstore and got pretty clued in to the mark ups and what not. The only thing to be aware of is often DJ equipment only has a very small mark up compared to other electronics but this may have changed a bit as its all mass produced and has less mechanical parts, similar guts inside etc.

ParticipantIn answer to your question Jack, any of those controllers are decent except I would stay away from Pioneer controllers at this stage (especially the Ergo) as they still have some way to go, the Numark and Denon stuff is pretty decent and built quite well. I like the S4 the best out of the controllers you’ve suggested but as Terry said it does have some shortcomings. Its all personal preference at the end of the day. Take everything everyone else says with a grain of salt…you did the right thing and tried them out for yourself.
Steelo
ParticipantWhilst I respect your opinion Terry, you’re always raggin’ on the S4. Its build quality and jogs could be better but its still extremely functional, well laid out and intuitive and its Traktor integration is still the tightest available. As long as you don’t go beating up your gear (and yes I realise this eventually happens if well used and travels with you), the S4 is just fine. Controllers at this stage are only going to last a few years anyways, even the more durably designed ones as the buoild quality is still nothing close to a Technics turntable or even a Pioneer CDJ. I use mine several nights a week, every week and have yet to have a problem and know many Traktor DJs who do also. Sound quality between controllers is close to negligible once you’re in the club and have the music cranked up. maybe more noticeable on monitor for sure.
