ParticipantI’m currently using 12.2 with no issues (on Windows). I do have iTunes Match and Radio both disabled anyway though..

ParticipantMost decent over-ear headphones have removable ear cups.. take them off and wash them properly? I wouldn’t use any intensive chemicals as the dye will run but warm water should be fine.. Soak them for a bit 🙂
Obviously don’t soak the headphone bit though.. Probably won’t do it any good!

ParticipantWhat software are you using? It sort of matters.. 😉

ParticipantI don’t think the problem will be the speakers.. 127dB is a lot!
Do you own a mixer? Could you run audio through that before sending it to the speakers? Maybe try a different source? (Laptop soundcard? Phone?)
I also don’t know how a power adaptor can have “Ohms” and how this relates to the volume? Ohms are a measure of resistance – something that power adaptors generally don’t have. I also don’t know how plugging a different adaptor in can mean that the VU meters stop working?
I would try to borrow a friend’s S4 (or hire one for a day if you can) to see if that fixes the problem.
Other than that, an external soundcard would work fine. Personally I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 for DJing from (I don’t use a controller) and love it – high audio ouptput, hardware controls, headphone jack on it (the 2i4 lets you have a separate headphone mix to the speakers whereas the 2i2 doesn’t).. it does all I need and more. An alternative is the Numark DJIO (a lot cheaper) which does the same job but does without the Mic Inputs, which aren’t needed for DJing..
I very much doubt there is anything wrong with the speakers. The best way to check would be to plug your phone into the back and see how loud it is then? The volume output from your phone should be lower than the output from your controller (slightly) but if it is louder then you know where the issue s.

ParticipantHave a look at Swan Flight – I’ve only ever used them and they’re cases are top quality and as indestructible as you can make them…

ParticipantFor that budget,
I would spend slightly less on the laptop – have a look at second hand models/Refurbished stores from the manufacturer (I got mine from the Dell Outlet at half it’s list price in new condition…). Look to spend around £320 here to give you more money later on..
I would then spend about £140 on a Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 (Or a Denon MC2000 or a Pioneer DDJ-SB)
Leaving £140 for software and headphones.
You can get a pair of (reviewed today!) Reloop RHP-15 headphones for around £50 – these will last and not break after a year..
And then you are onto software.
Traktor is around £90
Serato is around $99 USD which is £65
Cross DJ is $49 USD which is £33
Virtual DJ is either $19 a month subscription (£13) or $299 for the infinite licence (£194)Now, all of these are affordable under your budget but it is important to pick the correct software for you rather than go on price. I tried all of them out and decided on VDJ for me. So I bought it.. It was hard spending that amount of money on software but I recognized it was the best one for me.
For you though, I would count VDJ out on cost terms and then download the demo’s of the other 3 to decide which is best for you.
(Note, if you decide traktor then you should buy NI hardware to go with it rather than the controllers mentioned above).

ParticipantVDJ is closed isn’t it?
And you have admin permissions on the laptop?
bob6397
bob6397
ParticipantSo let’s call your old user “Karlton” and your new one “Bethea”..
Make sure VDJ is closed whilst you do this.
– Go to C:\Users\Bethea\Documents.
– Rename the “Virtual DJ” folder to something else – EG “Virtual DJ.blank”
– Then go to C:\Users\Karlton\Documents and copy the folder called “Virtual DJ”.
– Go back to C:\Users\Bethea\Documents and paste that folder in.
– Start Virtual DJ in the “Bethea” user. It should have worked..If you also use iTunes library across both users, tell me and I’ll write instructions for how to make that work as well.. 🙂

ParticipantSteps for getting your first DJ controller (or upgrading..):
1) Decide on your software. Whether it’s Serato, Traktor, Virtual DJ, Cross DJ, Mixx, DJay Pro, DJay 2 or Traktor DJ.. Try them out (the last 2 are mobile/tablet only) and decide which suits you the best.
2) Decide what your budget is.
3) Decide what features you want from a controller. Sample Pads? 4 Channels? Externally Powered? In Built Audio Interface? Jogs? STEMS support?
4) Take your choices and use it to narrow down the market for you.. You should only end up with 1 controller.
NOTE: Do not use Native Instruments (the people who make Traktor) hardware with anything other than Traktor and don’t use anything other than NI hardware with Traktor.. Hardware is always built with a certain software in mind these days and therefore it works best with that software..

ParticipantI would get one of these – a Denon DS1. A new, cheaper alternative to a SL2/3/4 etc. audio interface.
It’s only about £240 and will work with Serato, Cross and Virtual DJ as well..
The only other interface I know of (That is only compatible with Cross) would be a ESI Maya 44+ (or the earlier, now discontinued, 44)
New one: http://www.esi-audio.com/products/maya44usb+/
Old one: http://www.esi-audio.com/products/maya44usb/Not serato compatible as far as I know but should work with Cross/VDJ..

ParticipantI strongly recommend ACS earplugs.. Really flat freq response and really comfy..
Top End ($185 USD) – http://www.acscustom.com/us/index.php/hearing-protection/acs-pro-17
Low End ($20 USD) – http://www.acscustom.com/us/index.php/hearing-protection/pacato
Of course the more expensive ones will be better, but both will be really good. I currently use a pair or ER20’s, which are cheap but do the job well.. They aren’t especially comfy after about an hour/hour and a half though so I’d get moulded ones if I were you..
I know that moulded ones are on my shopping list…

ParticipantI used duplicate cleaner to clean up and old pc once.. It worked pretty well and did clear all the duplicates – but I have no idea if it would work for comparing quality of audio files.
It was quite thorough though..

ParticipantNo problem.. Good luck DJing further 🙂

ParticipantThe Yamaha AG Series can be powered from the USB port on your laptop.. As can some (not recommended) Behringer models.
Behringer also make some battery powered models – the Behringer XENYX 1002B springs to mind but it only accepts 9V power- but I do not know of any other manufacturers that make battery powered mixers and I would not recommend buying any Behringer kit – (other than their X32 Mixer which is actually a MIDAS product in a frock but that’s a different matter..)
Note – the USB Behinger mixers would work but I believe that only the 302USB can be powered from only USB – which would prob be a little small for your needs..

ParticipantAlmost..
iTunes will store the music files in (unless you have changed it manually):
C:\Users\<username>\Music\iTunes Media\Music\<Artist>\<Album>\<Track>
(Replacing anything with “< >” with the appropriate values..)
What you need to do is add the new tracks from the “Normal” library to the “DJ” library..
Do this by going File -> Add file to library and then navigating to the new tracks.
**If you can’t see “File”/”Edit” etc, click on the little box icon far top left and select “Show Menu Bar”**
You don’t need to use playlists to transfer them, but you can transfer playlists if you want to as a separate function entirely.
What is important is adding the tracks in those playlists before you transfer them as any tracks iTunes doesn’t have in it’s library when you transfer the playlist it will just ignore and your playlists won’t transfer properly.Hope that makes sense..
