Rob Arran
MemberIn a club/bar spinning house….. never.
At a wedding or similar party I would consider playing something twice if it got requested *and* it filled/rocked the dancefloor first time round.Rob Arran
MemberCouple of sherbets does it for me 🙂
On a side note, who amongst us has had the DJ Dream? (The one where your record is running out and you cant find the next to put on.)
Cant say I’ve had it in a looong time but when I was doing a lot of gigs it popped up in my dreams quite often, kinda like dreaming of trying to run and getting nowhere.Rob Arran
MemberJust received mine about an hour ago (Finally!). Looks better in the flesh as it were, feels great to use. Lots of practising ahead! I’d write more but for obvious reasons ……….

MemberFrom reading your post I can see two of the qualities you have to enable you to overcome any fears you have about not being ‘classically trained’. Time and Passion, these two alone will get you where you want to be.
You are in a very similar situation to myself (sounds like you have more time than I do though 🙂 lucky you !) Here is what I have done to date :-Selected the best DAW I could afford (Reaper) and searched the net for resources, there are loads out there to get you going.
Took the online course from http://ohdratdigital.com/ which perfectly matches up with Reaper, this is a great foundation course and will teach you loads of stuff on track production from start to finish. Chris, the chap who runs it, is excellent at delivering the information you need to know whilst avoiding the ‘fluff’ and is only an email away if you have any specific questions, he responds quickly too which is great !
I’ve also started reading on music production/theory and, like yourself, have no theory training whatsoever so I started with ‘Music Theory for Dummies’ and http://www.completemusicproducer.com/All the above cost less than £150 and have enabled me to start producing tracks, Im no where near good enough yet but we all have to start somewhere !
Drop me a private message if you need any more advice or have any concerns 🙂 Its always nice to know there are people out there in a similar position.Rob Arran
MemberAnyone planned anything for tomorrow ? I’m working early doors so might be a little late to show up. Controller has now been returned so will be a couple of weeks or so before I can join in the fun !

MemberI would say ‘break the mold’ go out alone, I know your not comfortable doing it but… If you push yourself out of your comfort zone you will find you adapt quickly and what better place to meet people interested in the scene ? As others above have said, go to the club with a view on scouting the place out, listen to the tunes and watch the dancefloor reactions, watch the DJ’s and maybe pick up some tips maybe even ask a couple of sensible questions. The world is your oyster my friend so go and grab what you want !
