ParticipantLet me preface this by saying I rarely use effects. I feel you’re using them way too much. Now the mixing, in the first mix it doesn’t sound like the tracks are quite synced up. It’s also just fade in and fade out. You’d have more energy if you just dropped it instead of the slow fade in. The fade out is a couple of bars too early, again you lose energy here. 2nd mix you tease a little and then drop the track. You maintain the energy nicely here. The last transition is ok as well. All transitions are very very quick, maybe that’s due to the “mega-mix style” and in my opinion you tend to get a little effects happy when you have any kind of downtime. Anyway, there’s my 2 cents.

ParticipantI’ll try to give it a listen but I’m not an electro fan. Are the mixes on youtube?

ParticipantFor 3 weeks on mixcloud I’d say those are pretty decent numbers. I don’t get much of anything on there. I think my most recent mix has 15 listens and 1 favorite.

ParticipantI’ll add audiojelly, traxsource and juno

ParticipantI always recommend intro/outro mixing for people who are new. But it’s not required and you can move on when you feel comfortable with it. That said, progressive tracks do generally benefit from that kind of mixing.

ParticipantDo you have the problem you’re talking about in that mix?

ParticipantDo you have a mix posted so we could hear what you’re talking about?

ParticipantHave you tried a practice session without touching the eqs at all? Might tell you where you’re going wrong. What kind of music are you mixing?

ParticipantYes and no on switching genres. It’s fine if you’re in your bedroom, but it’s not so great if you show up to see a deep house dj who suddenly decides he’s into dubstep. Extremes of course but you see my point. I, like many others, do more than one style. How did I settle on my main “scene”? I listened to music and followed what I like. You like the big names right now, start there and follow down the rabbit hole, you’ll find what you like best.

ParticipantIt’s about the music you buy, not the equipment you buy. Not really something I’ve had a problem with but something new djs need to understand. It’s easy to think that if you buy the latest greatest mixer (or controller) it will make you a better dj. It won’t. Focus on the basics and buy the best music you can.

Not that its a big deal cuz i do 95% of my work in itunes creating smart playlists and spend copious amounts of time making sure all my songs are properly tagged and have grouping/genre/feel/key all filled out properly…that finding tracks in Traktor is just super easy…espically with the search function. (Used to be a boy scout) lmao
What are your gripes, and complaints…as i dont really see the difference between serato and Traktor when it comes to library mangement…mind you like i said i just use my playlists i have created in Itunes.
Everything you mentioned is the problem. VDJ works the best in my opinion. I put all my music into file folders and then I play out of the file folders. With Traktor I have to do more work, i.e. using itunes. Plus, the tracklist is tiny on my laptop when running 4 decks, which is my biggest complaint. So my 2 options are use the search or switch to browser mode. Both options are annoying. With VDJ I just sort based on whatever I want and I can see 20 tracks in dialogue box without scrolling, and that’s with 4 decks running. Anyway, it’s usable but not near as good as VDJ. I’m also new to Traktor and I’ve used VDJ for awhile so I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I didn’t care for Serato or Mixx for a variety of reasons so I’ve barely used them.

But if the Twitch didn’t exist, i’d be owning an N4 right now! loved all the features about it…except that it is still a mainly plastic piece despite being $500..
Wow, those controllers are complete opposites. Did you change your style of djing or something?

ParticipantI’ve had one about 6 months now. Nice mixer, no problems at all.

ParticipantI’m based in the U.S. I don’t know anyone else in my area who plays. Why play something everyone else plays? Check out Neelix, he’s from Hamburg and plays more to the techno side of the style and is one of, if not the main creator of this style.
Track selection was and is the most important thing to djing. People just don’t spend as much time on the basics now. That’s why the old school guys get annoyed.
