ParticipantYou could always just map it. Numark may even put up a mapping for you like they do with a lot of their other controllers. I agree with you about the NS7 II, I was very excited when I saw it as well.

ParticipantIn my opinion if you want to get in to controllerism then Traktor is for you. As far as which controller, that’s a very personal decision that I cannot help you with. Enjoy the hunt!

ParticipantI wasn’t thinking when I posted that. My apologies.

ParticipantBad deal for sure. Decide on a base rate, counter offer with that (or a number above it if you want to barter). If he won’t pay then forget it, if he will then get a signed contract.

ParticipantAs long as every mix doesn’t sound the same, I say go for it.

I got a Numark N4 last June. I’d been mixing vinyl for 15 years and my mixer had just crapped out on me. I decided to give digital a chance and so after much research I decided on the N4 because it could function as a standalone mixer as well as do digital. At first I had trouble assigning the decks so only one would play and then I had trouble with the cue. I think I had a few other troubles too. I went to the Numark website and got it all sorted in a couple of hours and off I went. Now, I rarely play vinyl and I love the digital world. By the way, this website was instrumental in my decision to give digital a chance. Thanks Phil.aaron altar

The S4 is certified for Traktor Scratch Pro, so you can do it out of the box with it.It’s not certified but I know it works with Traktor without an NI audio interface. There is proof. Also it works with VDJ Pro DVS. I don’t believe it will work with Serato Itch however.

And electro, progressive and some other EDM genres are transitioned form one track to another with blending. What I mean about layering is that when djs play deep house, tech house they play two or more tracks at the same time like always, never a single track.
I understand. 3 and 4 deck mixing can be complicated and is best utilized in techno. I also find it to be done more frequently in mixtapes than live. Even when people do it live it is either a routine or they don’t take great risks.

I think you’re listening to some poor mixes. Layering is a key component of edm mixing. I, for one, never transition without layering.

ParticipantMaybe it all has to do with the couple of drinks djs frequently have before going on. I know if I’ve had a few drinks I’m a lot more likely to use effects and try more difficult techniques but when I’m completely sober I rarely use effects or transition techniques that I’m not completely comfortable with (unless I’m just screwing around). There’s my 2 cents. What do you mean by “layer tracks” vs “make transitions?”

ParticipantThe N4 can do DVS as well although I don’t know why you would.

ParticipantNumark N4 does it seamlessly. Works great for me and was the reason I got it.

ParticipantI usually drop at 1/2 volume but I make sure the tracks are synced in the headphones first.

ParticipantI’ll just repeat mine for you. Beatport, Audiojelly, Psy Shop and Juno. I play zero top 40 so I can’t help you there.
