Nicko, you always give solid feedback dude, I really appreciate it. You have not missed anything about me; I am certainly NOT a promoter and just a DJ. Lol!

I have mixes down already and my Soundcloud, but all my mix CD’s and the music loaded onto the site are “get up and dance” kind of styling’s. I think that you 100% nailed it that on week nights they are looking for a mood setter. The reason that I want to get on board with this is because they have two locations and the OTHER location is the “get up and dance” kind of crowd. I am hoping to get my “in” and then work towards that location because they (strangely enough) have no DJ on the weekends. Also, the type of clientele that hangs out at this place can really open some doors for me since they are mostly very connected people who do business in multiple states.

I am thinking that I will have to drop a quick 15 minute, “chill” set to take with me. It’s not a emcee kind of place, so I won’t have to worry about that.

Realistically…i dont even count anymore and can tell when the end of a 32 beat phrase is.

The music in my collection that I REALLY know I don’t conciously count, but I still count on newer tracks. It allows me to mix music that I don’t know all that well.

Counting also helps me get back in the mix after someone comes into the booth and distracts me.

    Or count to 8?

I just count…But I mix in key as much as I can, so usually it works out well. = )

I prefer counting to 8, as in House music, the excitment usually happens on the counts of 8, espcially at 16, 24, and 32nd beat.

Thank you both for all the information. I stopped by both of your fan pages and added you as favorites (which I have learned is the equivalent of “liking” on fan pages).
Please feel free to do the same for me. = )

You can switch between both by clicking on the right top drop down (beside your name) and selecting the persona (aka I would click “use as Terry 42” when I want to imperonate my DJ persona). As a persona / page owner you cannot like other “natural persons” on facebook, only sites or comments. (You can try by liking me see link in my signature)

The 30 likes will enable you to be more visible. More people get updates and more people get “you might like XXX” and you get a weekly newsletter with your statistics.

Yes get a personal account because as a “natural person” you can do other things too.

Yes you can use custom images so called “title images” and you can post in your history specific things that define your style, persona or whatever.

I am no facebook pro, but I hope that answered some questions.

    Terry_42,

    Thanks Terry_42!

You are a wealth of information as usual! I have kind of been learning as I go with FB so far, so your insight really helps. I will take the time this weekend to setup a personal persona as well.

Thanks so much Nicko!!! You have no idea how much relief that offers.

I figure if I can get everyone here to approve, then I’m ready to be a rock star. Thank you again for your feedback. = )

Dude…that is EXACTLY how it is in Phoenix! I found this guy on Craig’s List who was offering mentoring/lessons, but when I met up with him he was all, “That will be $50 for an hour of my time.” Suffice to say that all he did during that hour was show me basic things that I already knew, and then try to sell me music from his collection. I was super bummed about that experience.

Congrats on your first show out dude. Sounds like it was a resounding success. I DJ’ed a friends party a while back and ran into the same scenario…with people asking for my Soundcloud. I have since setup an account and I am working on some quality mixes to put up there.

I also just created a mix the other day that I loaded onto my IPod and have let a couple people listen. The reaction has been something like, “Where can I get more of this and come to one of your shows?!” So, I think a lot of it for me is just building that confidence that I am decent enough to start playing out. I know that everyone on here says “just do it” all the time, but I still feel that I lack that confidence in my ability. I am even nervous to post stuff on my Soundcloud until I think it’s perfect…

    Thanks man!

I am working on a couple of mixes to post to my Soundcloud by week’s end. I will make sure that I email you the links, as I would love your feedback.

From what I have seen, some people can just hate on your style/mixes without providing any constructive feedback. So, I really look forward to the constructive part…I already know I’m not perfect. Lol!
