Yes, that is definitely sth I’ve been thinking about. Logic Pro is only 150,- as compared to 270,- for Ableton standard (EDU). If I’d use Maschine to build loops (I’m most interested in deep & tech house, which is heavily loop based) and then only finish the tracks in Logic, that might be really cool. Then again, if I would choose to start with mouse producing and “only” a DAW, then I’d probably pick Ableton, because it makes more sense to me regarding the whole creation of a song compared to Logic’s workflow.

What attracts me about Maschine is the feeling, that I can more “ease into” the ehole production thing and just have fun. It seens to be more approachable to get some decent sounding loops and samples going, I can then incorporate into my DJing, and with time look more into making whole songs.

With a full DAW (Logic or Ableton, Push or not) it’s more like jumping into the deep end right away and I don’t wanna get frustrated, I’m not always the most patient guy ^^

    That make sense?

    I think I’m going for Maschine…

Btw thanks so much for your comments! I love these forum!!

If we are only talking music here, and no other uses you might have, I don’t see NEED for an iPad. Sure it’s nice and dandy and there’s Touch OSC/touchABLE and all, but for serious mixing and production you’ve got a MBP. That considered my advice: Get rid of the ipad and get yourself a serious controller abd software instead.

There’s good arguments for both. Ur coming from VDJ and apparently ur open to other software.

Twitch is a nicely integrated no hassle package, a nice advantage in ur case IMO that it works well with Traktor out of the box, but also comes with a full license of Itch (soon to be Serato DJ). It only has one effect unit which could bug u in Traktor, but there’s the pads for some midifighter-esque effects mappings, so that shouldn’t keep you off – apparently ur willing to do some mapping.

The X1 is nice (have owned one, also the Twitch, never used K2), but it IMO only makes real sense with a mixer. Idc how you map it, the K2 is not a mixer. It’s another version of an X1 basically.

Twitch works great out of the box, great value for money, gives u choice of software.
X1 + K2 have more mappable controls between them (don’t see the need for that in what you say you do though). More effort needed mapping.

Get Twitch for your djing, set up touch osc on your iPad to control Ableton and then you can decide later on, whether you also need a launchpad or if you want to swap the Twitch for sth with more inputs as you mentionedfor your turntables etc.

My VCI-400 EGE is on its way, and if it helps you I could give a little bit of feedback once I got to try it out. Not meaning to take away from the Denon, their units are solid, but you CAN find some issues with buttons getting stuck over time in long-term reviews. Vestax has legendary build-quality, and my guess would be that the Vestax is the most durable one of the controllers mentioned here. Even if only by a notch.

The EGE is mapped tightly to Traktor. What pushed me towards that particilar controller (looking for sth with 4 physicsl channel strips too) was its comparably “small” footprint, without feeling as packed as the Denon. Then build quality and from what reviews say great sound. And finally the tons of controls (especially the “performance pads”). It’s almost like having a midifighter built in. I also like to use loops, and I like loop encoders more than button only solutions (sth the Denon lacks in).

But if you are more interested in the Remix decks (as in 2+2 channels), bearing in mind that you can only fully unlock them with an F1, why not go for sth like the Denon MC3000 or Reloop’s Digital Jockey 3? Maybe even Twitch…

Not too familiar with ITCH, so don’t know if there’s a preferenxe page for output routing you might gave a look at.

What I recall on the hardware side of things: If you connect to your speakers via RCA output make sure to use the little selector switch on the back of the unit, to send out master signal through the booth out (the RCAs).

D-Jam, that is one of the most resounding with truth, no BS posts I’ve ever read here.

Whichever hobby it is, I’m always a little prone to fall for GAS so I can kinda relate to that. Thanks for your words of wisdom! (Zero sarcasm)

To the OP: S4 and TWO F1? You’re Ean Golden? I’d say start out with an S2 or S4 if you’re all set on NI and once you feel like 4 samples per Remix Deck aren’t enough you can still get an F1. I tried it out and sent it back cause it was way above my skill level to mess with that stuff in a meaningful way besides trying to put a decent mix together.
If you absolutely have to blow that amount of cash, I’d still rather go for a Z2 + one X1 + one F1. Translates better to clubs, lets you swap out stuff etc.

Wow 3 years of use? Sorry, no offense, but my last MBP was still going strong after five years of MANY hours of daily usage, and I could still sell it for ~40% of what I paid for it new. I’m sure it would’ve lasted some more YEARS, it’s just that I wanted something new.

To each their own, but I don’t think they’re overpriced considering the better build quality, more stable OS (oh the hours I save per year compared to tweaking and fixing a Win system (I’ve been there long enough…)) and resale value. It’s like buying a Mercedes vs a Nissan/Kia what have you.

Edit: As I said, to each their own, my main point is that you DO NOT burn cash at all, because you get much better resale value too (hence the Mercedes comparison)

Well, I’ll check the SX out in the store next week for sure, maybe I’ll forego the VCI 400 right away 😀

Wouldn’t be worth it to get the S2 IMO, and I’ve owned one. It’s nice, but like the S4 I find it heavily overpriced for the quality of the units. If u look around the internet it seems to me that 2/10 people don’t experience any problems abd the rest gets major wear and tear after comparably short amounts of time. My S2 was already having issues after mere 6 months of usage, not even gigging!

Plus I personally feel that Twitch allows me more control over Traktor.

But in the end it depends on your workflow and the features that are most important to YOU. Only real way to solve this, instead of going through it in your head time and time again (we’ve all been there, lol) is to get ur hands dirty and on these controllers to try them out!!

That’s a really good and important question, as I’d love to have that option and the VCI 400 can’t do that afaik

After factoring in those additional details frankly I’d still go with the Twitch!
First of all: You can learn and do proper beatmatching on it, no matter what some people who’ve never owned or used one tell you. With the touchstrips you can nudge a track in phase just as you can with jogs.

What’s so cool about the Twitch? It’s big bang for the buck, just what you’re looking for! You can cover all the basics, but you won’t outgrow it soon either because with the layers of pad controls you get loads of “performance controls” to have fun with. You can use it for 4 decks (or 2 track decks + 2 sample decks) in Traktor and in the near future you can also check out the full version of Serato DJ.
It’s a small footprint w/o feeling as busy as the MC 3000, it’s reliable and durable. All at a good pricepoint.
I’d at least give it a try!

If it’s not for you I’d forego the tighter integration of the S2 abd go for the Denon. Sturdier build, smaller footprint and more controls (eg layers for controlling more than 2 decks).

I was really stoked when the SX was announced and interested in buying one. It ticks all the boxes but I think size is an issue. Saw a nice comparison picture somewhere on the DJTT forums, and this thing is like…huge! I mean, that’s not a problem for having it sit at home, but as soon as you wanna gig on it? No way anybody wants to lug it around, there’s no room to set up anyways. But I want a well made 4 deck controller I can still carry around. Plus now that there’s more info on Serato DJ available… the UI looks pretty “meh” to me.

I ordered a VCI 400 EGE now. Smallest footprint of the top contenders, very well built…

What’s your guys’ take on the size problem? Ur just gonna use it at home and then DJM + CDJs at the club?

coming from the omni control any of the ones listed should do just fine.

mc3000, S2, Terminal Mix 2 are all decent devices. Also check out the Novation Twitch, if you play mainly EDM and don’t need jogwheels. I personally would go with the Twitch out of the 4. If you wanna stick to Traktor, the S2 of course integrates very tightly, but I’d say both MC3000 and TM2 are better made than the S2. So it depends a bit on what u r looking for, so maybe you should be more specific 🙂
