I recently purchased this unit, for two reason; 1, it’s pretty affordable and 2, you don’t need a lap top to use it.
I’m happy with the unit, and it’s just the right size, the right weight, pretty sturdy and unless you’re going to be using this controller as a slamming board, it is well built and can withstand a pretty good amount of abuse.
It’s internal sound card gives a good and loud punch when using it in MIDI mode, although there is a slight delay from the moment you press play to the moment the song starts, nothing big if you set your cue a few milliseconds ahead. Other than that, it works flawless with VD8 and there is no SYNC button on the unit, for those of you who hate the sync option. I wish this unit could also be used with Serato DJ but I love Virtual Dj, so I have no problem, but it would be nice.
The wave bar is not the fanciest of them all, quite simple but effective and running the unit straight from your USB thumb drive is just beautiful.
The only thing that I don’t like is the cue volume. When in MIDI mode, the cue volume is loud and clear, when running the unit from the USB< the cue sound tend to decrease dramatically, making it a bit hard to hear when performing live and having a monitor next to you.
Overall, it is a nice unit, one that I would recommend to any DJ, whether your a newbie or an experienced DJ. It’s not to expensive, it’s well built, it packs a punch, and being able to run it in stand alone mode, it’s awesome.
Like every other controller out there, this one has the potential to be a top seller for Gemini. However, based on my observations, many DJ’s prefer to have a lap top y their side when using a controller. After all, the controllers were created to control the software via a laptop.
Lastly, I always like to go with the underdogs, because you never know what they have to offer until you test out their products. I’ve been using the Gemini CDJ700’s for three years, and I love them. They recently released the MDJ1000’s and I cant wait to get a pair of these units and take them for a spin.
