MemberI asked the major local hip hop label if I could buy a classic instrumental from their back catalogue- they pretty much laughed me out of the room. I can take solace in that the last 10 albums they’ve put out have been garbage, but if you’re going to ask, you should be prepared for someone to be a jerk about it.

MemberI think it’s solid! The first drop is missing something (I don’t know if it’s a volume or eq issue, perhaps?), but from the breakdown onward it’s damn good. Keep posting, I’d love to hear more of your stuff.

MemberGood stuff! That’s one radio show I could see myself tuning into. Nice mix of styles, good track choice, the only tiny thing I could think of to recommend is that when you drop the show’s watermark (or soundbyte, or whatever you want to call it), it’s often way louder than the music around it, so it’s a bit jarring. As I said though, the show kicks copious amounts of ass, especially since that’s all I can think to say that I didn’t like lol. Keep it up!

MemberI can understand perfectly why people hate on the sync button so much- I was one of the “vinyl or die” types until the past couple years. You know why? Because I was scared. I saw this new technology come in to play that threatened to make my years of hard work learning to beatmatch obsolete, and I was mad about it. “Now that beatmatching isn’t enough, what will I do? Who just wants to listen to beatmatched sets now?” I thought to myself. The reality is there are two options- up your game and make your sets kick more ass than they ever have, or sit back and cry while the rest of the world moves on, sync or no sync button.

MemberI wish I were! I should really set up an account. I dig the way you mixed the symphony into the following track, did you use any particular effects, or is that how the song sounds normally?

MemberGreat mix! Nice variety to keep it from getting stale, and some very cool, chilled out grooves to be enjoyed. What was the first song? That’s what drew me in!

MemberI’m a little confused why no one has commented on these yet. The second electro mix is solid as. Definitely peak hour stuff, but hey, that’s what you want when you’re putting together a mix like this I think. The track choice was a highlight for me, in all three mixes. Hope to hear more!

MemberIt all depends- if you’re a wedding DJ, you might need 4k-5k plus! But in reality, if you’re doing pretty much any other kind of DJing, the right size of your library is the largest number of tracks where you can say with confidence that you know each of them perfectly. For me, that’s right around 900 at the moment, but it’s getting bigger as I practice. Also, the nice thing about the digital aspect of DJing now is that if someone comes up to you with a perfect request and you don’t have it, chances are they either have it on their phone, or you can get it momentarily on your own.

MemberI’m working on a set like this with my friend Teggy, it’s easier than you think it will be! We made it 4 tracks each, so that we can have anchor points that progress the set (on tracks 1 and 4), and then there’s some room to breathe and change things up a bit on tracks 2 and 3 if we decide that what we planned on isn’t going to work. Matching track styles and keeping it cohesive is probably the hardest part about it, so make sure you guys are working toward the same set, rather than making it sound like 2 different sets being played simultaneously lol.

MemberI listened to this on my headphones, and because there was not enough bass, I left the coffeeshop I was sitting in just to go home and crank this mix on the subs. Farking fantastic lol.

MemberGreat stuff in there man. Dub is seriously underrated in general, and you do it some serious justice here. What type of equipment are you using?
Redblock
MemberDefinitely not what I was expecting, but that’s a good thing! Mixing was tight, tempo changes for the most part were clean and made sense musically. I liked the fact that not only are you not afraid to mix styles, you can do it in a way that sounds damn good. Also, that Big Bang mashup kicks any and all kinds of ass.

MemberI used to spend much of my time DJing for art openings at galleries where I live, and you did exactly what I would have done- set the mood, keep it sophisticated.
My feeling is that most people aren’t listening to every song that’s being played, only the vibe that you’re constructing with each track. If you get a few people talking to you because of it, hand out a few business cards for more upbeat gigs later, and relax!

MemberLately, YouTube has been my favorite method of finding new stuff- there are lots of underground/unsigned producers that I’ve met from listening to their fresh remixes of older stuff. Most of the time you can beg a free copy of something you like as well! It’s a great resource for anyone who wants original remixes of top 40 or older EDM hits.
