    Hello Zachary,

    I have used virtual dj (lite version bundled with many controllers) for 1 or 2 gigs. Lot of people had gripe on it’s internal mixer and how it was not as good as it is supposed to be. But the pro version (upgraded version) was supposed to be good. Eventually i chose traktor and stuck on to it. So the bottom line is, whether you are comfortable using it and does it sound good. If you can evaluate those two, you should be good!

    @A.T. Well I guess I was in the same boat as you are right now for the last 2-3 years. Whenever I asked or spoke to DJ friend he would lead the conversation the other way. But when I asked off late to play on a night where he was trying to introduce amateur djs he said yes. Then later that also failed and finally he help me open up for him one saturday (he was pleasantly suprised). Try to see if you can open for a DJ you know. Catch him/her when they are not playing (face to face is best) on a lean day when they look good and can have a chat with you. Check with them if he/she can mentor you or something. Might help.

    Pretty good for a first try. I would say try to work little more on the structure and a 8 or 16 bar intro.

    Great going!! I was in a similar situation but I kind of had 2 weeks time to prepare my tracks. They asked for Pop / Commercial. I did not have any. So i kind of went through the net to see if I could find some deep house / house remixes of the popular songs I knew and got my stuff. Most of them were free downloads from facebook which was even more cool!

    The DJ booth is nothing like what I thought it would be. It was so freaking loud!! Turned down the booth volume still could not hear my stuff clearly. Made all my transitions in doubt, But the DJ for whom I was opening was kind enough to let me play some commercial stuff at the end when I got eased up a little.
