    Ah, I hope it will discuss the basics of the top three competing s/w namely Serato, TP and VDJ. And this is definitely a must-have for me as a total newb, trying to enter the DJing hobby a few months back. This is gonna be one awesome, awesome stuff! Thanks Phil!

    I might get a MIDI fighter for cue point juggling. The cue point juggling is all new to me, and I’d want to experiment a la Ean Golden 🙂

    I’m actually interested in the production side of things, how does FL studio fare? I’m trying to look around their site and all, and I’m looking at FL Studio Producer Edition as well

    Uh well, the Numark Mixtrack Pro may be used to control four decks. This can be done via Skins and/or mappings esp on Virtual DJ. I have actually tried it myself though I’m still not very comfy controlling four decks as I’ve just started learning DJing a few months back.

    As with any other DJ software, I am not so sure, but I think it’s just with how you map your controller

    I think playing mashups, remixes of single tracks from other DJs are a-ok. But whole DJ mixes are a no-no for me

    Oh cool, thanks man! Now I know that I am in the right direction! And then from that mixer, I’d connect it to the amps. Then from the amps, I would connect my two monitor speakers and a subwoofer. Am I correct? Thanks!

    Well I’ve tried and VDJ also supports VST plugins, so that’s definitely a big plus. Ableton, I don’t think that it really is a DJ software. It has a more “producer” feel to it.

    Hey thanks guys. I’m looking at this PA mixer(not really sure if I’m correct), it’s pretty much a budget mixer IMHO. It’s an Allen-Heath Zed-10FX.

    As most of us know about the Mixtrack Pro(this is my current controller), it has two RCA outputs at the front of the controller. I’m not sure if I found the specs of the Zed-10FX to be correct, but I figure that it has “2 stereo sources with MP3 player compatibility” I just am not sure if this is the one that I should be looking for to connect my Mixtrack Pro into.

    Then from there, I should connect this to the amps or to the speakers via the “XLR main stereo outputs with inserts” or “Stereo monitor outs”? Am I correct with this one?

    @Phil yep, right on the money. Creativity is really difficult as you need experimentation along with it, and it doesn’t come right off the bat. If writers and songwriters do have a “Writer’s Block” then Producers and DJs, and music artists as well must also have a “Musician’s Block”

    Hi All, yes thanks for the suggestions. However am I correct in my general Idea that it goes like that? The

    Laptop>Controller – RCA Out>Mixer – RCA In> Amps>Speakers?

    Is that the way how those things should be connected? Sorry, I’m totally waaaayyy new about these stuff although we do setup band instruments when I still had a band.

    I’m currently at work and our firewall blocks streaming media so I’ll listen to it when I get home. Is FL studio free? Or if not, is there a sample demo pack. I’ve heard of some like garageband for the mac, Acid Pro where they have pre installed beats then what you ought to do is mix them by layers, am I correct?
