Dj Vintage. Thanks so much for correcting my error. All along, I had the image of the MG06 in mind. You are right, and the AG06 is seems like a solid machine. I like the fact that I can use a PC based application to fine tune it.

I still think it is compact enough for my current usage. And to to get the AG06, I have to return the Soundcraft unit I have, paying for its shipment. It will add an additional close to $25 to its original cost, bringing its total price close to $325. The AG06 is about $200 shipped, and getting it will save me about $125, which I can use to improve other areas, e.g, the mic.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

    /Oy

Hi, thanks very much. I realized that the AG06 does not have RCA inputs — this is vital for me as I do use my smaller mixer (SB2) sometimes for small basement parties.

How do you suggest I connect it to the mixer, if I go through that route?

    thanks – Oy

Thanks very much for all your thoughts. I agree that for my purposes, a small form factor is a solid consideration. In that regard, I am thinking of the AG06 (http://www.zzounds.com/item–YAMMG06X). I also thought of the Allen & Health Zed 6 (http://www.zzounds.com/item–AAHZED6), which is slightly cheaper, but I am leaning more towards the Yamaha given that I have Yamaha tops (DXR15).

I think it suits my needs at the moment, given the few gigs I do per year, and it is close to $200 cheaper.

Now, assuming I go with the Yamaha AG06, how would you recommend I connect the components:

    — Speakers
    — Subwoofer
    — Controller
    — Mics (2 Mics).

I assume I go from Mixer Output —> Subwoofer —-> Tops
Controller Output –> Line Input on Mixer

Since the Mics take Channels 1 & 2, where will the XLR output from the controller go on the mixer?

    thanks, Oy

Thanks DJ Vintage.  I sure am and have already bought the main digital dj course.  I am considering the wedding Dj version.  But I need some music for an event on Sunday.  It is a wedding for an African-American couple, hence R&B, Funk, etc are top on the list.  I am using Itunes to buy most of them – but do you know of any other source to get good quality music apart from beatport, etc.  I joined an mp3 pool, but can’t locate many of the tracks I want there,,

will appreciate any help.  rgds, Oy

thanks for the hint – I have never used a remix deck (using trakktor pro), but will learn about it. I will go and read about the remix deck, and come back with any possible question.

Yes, I thought so too …. in that case, I would have to venture out of the Yamaha DXS line since the max size is 15. Terry … what do you think? Is there any other bigger Yamaha sub that that is mattable to the DXRs?

Thanks Folks. I understand the process of connecting the sub and the speakers, as you all suggested, I will daisy chain the speakers and the sub – going from the Controller Main-outs into the Sub’s inputs, and then the speakers will be connected to the sub’s outputs.

What I am not clear about is with reference to DXS-15s. Since my tops are 15s already, will a single DXS be enough to supply the lower end to both? Wouldn’t it be better to go for a bigger sub like 18″ or 21″?

    cheers, Oyiwaa

Newportdj, thanks very much for your helpful replies. You are right about the confusion re HPFs. Given that my speakers (a Yamaha DXR15) already has a switch to set an HPF (either 100 or 120), I don’t need a subwoofer that has this feature. I can select 100hz to allow the tops to pass only those mid+higher frequencies, and let the subwoofer handle anything lower than 100hz. Does it then mean that I have to set the variable LowPass setting on the Cerwin Verga to 100Hz? Does it have to be that exact – since the switch on the CerwinVega sub is a dial?

    Thanks, Oy.

    Hello Terry, MikeD et al:

Just an update: I finally decided and went with the Yamaha DXR15. It arrived today – and I am happy with the way they sound even without the sub. Within the next couple of days, I will get a second one – ie the Yamaha DXR15. Later, I will consider the Cerwin Verga subs (CVA-118) to complete the set.

Thanks again for your all support, and patience with my extremely noob questions: I am still learning 🙂

    Rgds, Oyiwaa

Thanks very much, MikeD and Terry and others: I am still weighing my choices – though I was leaning towards the PRX612Ms, I actually read abit about the Yamaha DXR15s and liked its power and versatility compared to the PRX12s. I went to the local GC and listened to each but noted little difference though it appears the DXRs had a bit more lower end. I really liked this + its versatility. What is your opinion about their reliability and versatility, in light of my needs?

    cheers, Oyiwaa

i will advice that you download virtual dj pro and give it a shot. If it works then you know if is a Traktor software problem. As well, how up-to-date is your MacBook? When was the last time you did a clean install. If it has been a while, it might be worthwhile – it takes time – with backup / restore etc but helps with debugging software hiccups. I do a clean install once a year … to ensure I start up afresh.

    good luck – Oyiwaa

Terry_42: thanks very much for the message. I successfully returned the 612s. I should be ready to order the 15 inch next week. So far, the PRX 615M is the top choice, followed by the EONs. Cheers, Oyiwaa

Thanks very much ….. I just placed an order for the PRX612Ms from ZZounds. I ordered just a single cab, and plan to get a second by years end. But the sub now is the question. The PRX versions are so expensive that I might end up waiting for a long time to get one -maybe sometime next year. I might do one or two gigs before then. Given this, would it be better to get the PRX615s … they are so huge though. And when I get the subwoofer later, wouldn’t it be too much for my type of setup – about 200 people in large room?

The PRX615s haven’t shipped yet, so I still have a window – a couple of hours to change the order.

    Cheers, Oyiwaa

Terry_42: thanks very much for your input and insightful comments about the JBL. I agree it is better to get the JBL 15s, if I am going to be starting without a sub. How would you compare the JBL EON 515XT to the PRX615s (which cost about $200 more). In other words, is the additional power the main reason for getting the PRXs?

    Thanks – Oyiwaa

Thanks very much for all your input – they are very helpful. Indeed, it is tough choice since the QSC 12s costs just about $50 more than the JBL. The JBL has a crown amp – so they are great, but there is little about built-in protections for the amp as does the QSC (for example through the use of a fan).

As a result, I am being swayed by the protection and connectivity options at the back of the QSCs. But I am not sure if these 2 alone are enough to justify the added cost.

I do plan to get a subwoofer in the next couple of months, before I add a second pair of 12s. Do I have to necessarily go with a QSC subwoofer or can it be matted to a different sub ? If so, what would you recommend?

    Thanks – Oyiwaa
