Participant^ disregard this, band last minute booked and I’d really like you guys to see the venue (and limitations of it) and make sure we get hooking up down.
Electric Maid, 6*30-7pm, be there

Participantchecked out youtube videos to electric vice, liked the drum samples but wasn’t too impressed by the lead/bass synths. Drop squad, on the other hand, has me drooling; seems like it has much more application than just dub step. Still have to look into raw voltage, but I might hold off for a little since massive seems like it has so much potential for custom instruments as is.

ParticipantUggh, emergency update;
Just got in touch with the maid, they booked their open mic for this week with an actual show. Same time/date, but the address to meet would be 1233 12th St. NW DC, 20005. It’s about 5 blocks from Metro Center. No need to bring any gear, we can just pull it up on the computer and discuss where to go from there.

ParticipantI finally got my Massive download email. Oh my god…….. I think I’m going to be creating melodies for the next 30 hours straight.

Participanthttp://digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/dj-downtime.7453/ check that thread out. Everyone hates on us fx-whores, but I still believe when done properly it can really add to a set. Mind you, even as a fx-guy, I don’t touch flang or phase =).

ParticipantI’ve heard the Senn 280s are comparable, but I plan on using m50s myself. I have 30s right now, and I find the warm neutral works for me.

ParticipantBarker’s saying he wasn’t responsible for it, interesting……

ParticipantYeah, at the very least I have a usb mouse, ideally I’m working with my m-audio key studio. I’m in no position to help (still working on being able to input tempo and note through keyboard alone, instead of having to set the note length before I hit it)

ParticipantI was running a 4trak, 13″ mid-2010 pro, and an ion block-rocker. It’s not an audiophile speaker by all means, but gets the job done and doesn’t sound like complete shit.

ParticipantA Schumacher XP-2260 12V X-Line Portable Power Unit kept my laptop/controller/smaller speakers powered for about 4-4.5 hours

ParticipantIf you’ve got the funds, tossing a maschine, f1, or x1 into your set can give your performances an extra kick and I’ve found the crowd loves when you play around with the song and add a live performance aspect. Also, just toying around with fx can be great (assuming you stay on beat). I think I’d fall asleep mixing top40 if it weren’t for traktor and the selection of fx.
If there’s a quieter/lesser energy part of the set, maybe you can try hyping on the mic.

ParticipantThe scs1s do seem nice, I just wish there was an all-in-one. I guess I’ll have to compromise.
Went to guitar center and played around a little on the ns7 set-up. That controller alone makes me want to make the switch to serato, even though I really prefer traktor in terms of software.

ParticipantYeah; if you’re playing on campus turf, just get a permit or w/e is required, don’t know if it’s mandatory that you mention you’ll be collecting tips. It’ll also be a good way to network for campus parties I imagine.

ParticipantJust a reminder guys, next Thursday, be @ The Electric maid around 6:30-7 so I can finalize acts and work on promotion. Bring a 15 minute mix (if you can’t bring your gear, just bring a c or at the very least a soundcloud link) so we can establish set order.

ParticipantI recently got laid off from construction, so my strategy has been dj busking inbetween shows to earn income. I live in DC and will net 50-60 in 3 hours, and it’s a good chance to hand out my card. If you can get yourself smaller (albeit shitty) speakers and a portable power supply (spent about 150 for one that lasts 4-4.5 hours), set you kit up outside and just jam. Beats minimum wage by far, and it’s a great chance to meet new people. I don’t know what the populace of your town is though.
