I love talking to my classical music buddies. While we’re complaining about pre-recorded sets, all of our music is pre-recorded to them.

Pre-recorded dis are always beat, but why worry about ousting fake follower dis? I don’t do it personally (you can see my whole 19 likes on facebook if you go check it out XD), but in an industry where the # of likes could determine whether you eat that month as a dj, I say live and let live. If they fake 50k likes and don’t have the skills, they’ll be out-ed very quickly. On the other hand, there are guys who are incredibly nasty, but have to work 2-3 jobs just to sustain (To build my kit I had to work 96 hour weeks for a month). If someone like that wanted to fake likes to help them enter the door to playing out, I wouldn’t be against it. Besides, a pre-recorded mix can’t read the crowd; it’s usually obvious whether the mix is live by looking at the dj.

Get on league of legends ddjt crew, it’s free, not pay-to-win, and a blast. It’s room-based, and I’ve been playing it for over 18 months now and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. It’s how I kill time when the creative juices aren’t flowing.

I hate when this shit happens myself. I have an odyssey foldout-booth and those things are not meant to be grinded or or danced on. Had to keep it balanced while trying to scratch ……and that is not fun.

You have no idea how jealous I am, I’ve been drooling over m50s for a while. Love the look and sound of those phones, enjoy.

yeah, I don’t feel there is any blanket rule or right/wrong answer to this question. I’ll switch from build-up to drop of another song, blend an intro to a song with another song, let songs play out, etc. Generally, I tend to avoid only low end or only high end frequency parts. For some reason, I can’t have only 1 deep house track playing at a time, or only a dutch house break for more than 8 bars. It just bores my ears.

While practicing definitely is the way to go (practicing alot), there are things I just wouldn’t have thought up if I didn’t ask people much more experienced than myself. Gate scratching…….. never would have came up with that on my own.

Whether it is piano, djaying, or anything professional, I’d say turn to others for guidance, but don’t turn to others for emulation. I don’t believe in originality myself, but I believe in thesis/antithesis/synthesis. Take advantage of the wisdom of individuals who have been in the game for a while, mash different techniques and styles, and harness your sound through practice.

I bump very little music I don’t like. There’s a lot of songs I feel “eh, it’s ok” about (mostly prog house), but any popular song I generally find a suitable remix that I can stand (Afrojack’s gangnam style, for instance XD)

    Alright, so everything so far is going well. Just a few updates;

-Matix, I want you to perform at the show, but you haven’t gotten back to me since the 19th of December. As the booker, I need confirmation that you will be playing out, and need an idea of what you want to play. With the show being on the 14th, I can give you 3 days to get back to me, but I have to get flyers out/ have confirmation for the venue asap. Nothing against you personally, but this thing has to materialize fast (show is on Feb 14th)
-7 dollars a head, going to be a 4-hour BYOB event. If this event goes well, we’ll have a venue that we can work on creating our own scene with…. a venue where the dj is artist, not simply ambience noise. It’s an opportunity that can’t be passed up =).

    Keep in touch.

Damn, I’ve been on the computer for 17 hours toying with maschine/massive/logic and the time just seemed to fly by…….. with the level of synth customization in Massive, I don’t think I’ll need an expansion for months honest. Not to mention, I’m still trying to sort through all of the massive presets (haven’t even touched Reaktor yet).

I think I might have to toy with Tribute to Ivor/Aggressor for my first production. Any other suggestions for epic sounding massive presets?

Problem was, the guy was a friend of a friend and my friend hyped me. When he asked me what I play I told him electro & dutch house and hardstyle. I played some of my tunes for him and he said that’d work; I played some Bingo Players/Organ Donors and Sidney Samson’s cover of Out of your Mind/Afrojack’s cover of Alejandro. I guess he thought I mainly do top40 covers? Beats the hell outta me honestly, I was a bit surprised. At the same time, he didn’t sound as if he had been in booking for a long time.

A few things I may do myself:

    1) when I hear the beginning of a build-up + filter, I will prepare a related track (same instrumentation or same vocal range) and have my cue ready. Right before the drop I’ll switch channels and start the drop of the next song, then after the drop hit my cueue for whichever verse I want to come in on.
    2) I have cues on returns right after drops that I will beatmatch then transition to. EX:
2 songs I’ve done this with are SMH- Don’t you worry child and Bsharry’s avicii/rihanna mashup (we found your piano on I believe it’s called). When Don’t you worry child is returning after the break, there is a down-filter. Right before the “yellow diamonds in the light” part on the track, there is a down-filter. It makes for a pretty unnoticable transition, other than the change of vocals.

If anything, it really helps to memorize where you set cueues. worst case scenario, while you are djing and you have a song playing out, refresh yourself on the channel not in use and listen to where your cueues are set up on the next song you plan on bringing in. If anything, fill about 1/2 of your set with songs you have memorized, then in-between these songs play your new tracks. I’d really suggest memorizing your tracks to get the most out of your set, but there’s always that banger you find 2-3 hours before a show that just NEEDS to be in your set that night =)
