Participantdrop the master volume.

ParticipantIf you are just wiring an rca to xlr plug then yes it remains unbalanced (bridge pins 1&3 on XLR).
High impedance (high z), is usually an unbalanced lead (eg a guitar or a standard Tip/sleeve mic). This is a short run and needs to be under 3 meters.
If you are using a DI (direct injection) box to convert RCA to XLR then you are converting Hi Z unbalanced to Low Z balanced and can have a longer cable run on the XLR side but NOT on the RCA side.October 30, 2012 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Anyone use Mixlr for live-broadcasting their dj mix? #31073NewportDJ Drew
ParticipantI have used mixlr quite a few times. Great quality stream. Easy to use.

ParticipantI’ve seen XLR runs as long as 250-300 feet with no issue. I don’t know the limit though.
This is arguably the best benefit of running a balanced system. Huge cable runs are possible.

Participantyou could always get an adapter (if needed) to hook the ergo directly to your computer speakers you have now and bypass the computer sound card completely.
I see this was already suggested by synthetic after i posted so I will just +1 on his suggestion!!

ParticipantTrue, I like to think that the knowledge I have is correct, but like most things, there are always varying degrees of ‘right’. I am paying quite a few thousand dollars to gain an advanced diploma in sound and technical production, so I do like to think what I am paying to learn is true! 8). One of the best things I have gained from my course is that capturing and reproducing audio is a lifelong journey and the art of ‘manipulating electricity’ can never be perfected no matter how much knowledge you have nor how long you have been ‘doing it’.
PS. Thanks for the props on 3am 8).

Those stacks look like a whole lot of ‘no idea what phase interaction means’.
Here is a test. Get a tone generator run two identical sine wave tones 180 degrees out of phase and listen to what happens.
With speakers, if the magnets are not lined up you will get phase interaction and cancellation. (Sure there are time align circuits which can fix this problem). So no matter how good your file is it wont be reproduced faithfully at all if your speakers are not aligned.Oh and the best pa systems are made by Meyer.(MILO)

ParticipantSo the question is…. why aren’t audio albums being released on DVD or blue ray now that such wonderful high quality audio files can be manufactured? The CD format is over 30 years old and antiquated!

ParticipantSure you can have great sound quality but it costs space. we can get 192000 samples per second in 24 bits but a 3 minute song will be in the hundreds of megabytes… (note at 96k three minutes of audio is 100 megabytes and a comparable mp3 is about 8 megabytes).
So the game of trade offs begins.
As an individual, you must decide what your lowest common denominator is for your files.
My choice is I am happy to use 320k mp3’s as the trade off ratio of quality to file size is pretty damn good.NewportDJ Drew
ParticipantA grand for a pair of active 15″ers is a good start, then save another grand for your subs. When you start getting gigs you will want to aim to spend a grand per speaker. (4 grand is my next goal for a PA- 2x JBL 515XT and 2x JBL 518S or spend just a bit more and go the jbl PRX range). My end goal is spend about 30 grand and get a nice line array happening!

ParticipantIs it safe to use a TRS to XLR cable to connect it up to a system. Does this pose any risks or is it the same thing but just just different connectors?
To answer this question. It is the same with different connectors. Tip is XLR pin 2(hot) ring is XLR pin 1(cold) and sleeve is XLR pin 3(shield).

ParticipantUnbalanced can run 3 meters before you start getting high frequency loss. Unbalanced is prone to interference. Pins one and three are bridged in rca – xlr which is still mono. It remains an unbalanced cable with the limitations of unbalanced in place. If you have 2 RCA to a single xlr then you really run the risk of a hot signal. As a single rca outputs 24.5 volts. Join them(left and right) together you have nearly 50v and is not good for your gear which is expecting only 24.5. On top of all this unbalanced is Hi-Z. when your xlr input is low Z so this also puts a strain on the circuitry. Then there is the whole -10dB and +4db arena which I wont go into here.
My advice is keep unbalanced for unbalanced circuits and balanced for balanced. Let your gear do the job it was designed to do and if you need to go from unbalanced to balanced get a DI box which has the needed circuitry designed to convert your signal and above all else, keep things professional.NewportDJ Drew
ParticipantSeriously, after sound check, amps should always be ‘cranked to the max’ and the channel gains and master volume controlled at the mixer. After the show the amps should always be first to be powered down.

Participantnope still a huge cpu hog. Staying with 2.0.3

I saw this at my local gear shop today. Think this will be my next controller. Makes my s4 look toy like now.
