    OR

Is it getting to a point where being a DJ may no longer be considered a special thing?

Branden, what is the name of your record pool? My main needs are in the EDM/Top 40 areas and i like remixes and acapellas

Number 1: Numark MixTrack Pro definitely. The DDJ-WeGo is a little too rudimentary. Numark makes quality kit.

Number 2: I am actually somewhat inexperienced in DJing. I cannot do advanced scratches. I also cannot beat match by ear. My mixing capabilities are limited to matching BPM’s, using loops and FX. It is absolutely ok to be only good at basic mixing. I have done two live events without any issues. However, in that year or two span, strive to be as good as you can, look to go past simple mixing.

Chris, I hear where you are coming from. It seems like everyday there is 150 songs I want to go and download. But here is my opinion. While it is always important to stay up to date in the music world, there is something more important. Having the people you are playing for enjoy the music. Sure, if you are the first DJ at a club to play a certain song that is awesome. But the ultimate goal of a DJ, at any level, is to entertain and make people dance. So, what I am trying to get at is, don’t worry so much about being as updated as possible. Instead, focus on having the best songs and the songs people enjoy the most. In the end, that is what people will dance to most. Not the song they never heard, but the song that makes them go “oh shit” when it’s played. That is just my opinion!

In general, updated versions are usually not huge upgrades. You see that with iPhones, computers, basically all technology. I say go for the Mixtrack Pro 2, it is always good to be as up to date with your equipment as you can, even if the physical differences are minor

MIXTRACK PRO, DEFINITELY. I was in your situation just a year ago. I had a slightly higher budget and went for the Numark N4. Numark is a quality company. Their build quality is great even with the Mixtrack Pro, very hard to break. Also, the key lock button, I feel, is important from intermediate all the way to professional level DJing. If you really want to start learning how to mix on actual equipment, the key lock is necessary. Definitely definitely definitely Numark Mixtrack Pro

Beneath all of the BPM’s, keys, hot cues, loops and all the other DJ shit, the goal and job of a DJ is to make people dance and enjoy their time. Do whatever you can to rock the crowd!

Yes! I bought the Numark N4 about a year ago and I love it! Its so versatile and really has so many key mobile DJ features. 2 microphone inputs and video mixing abilities and inputs for two time codes! For the price, it’s really a top notch DJ controller. I have not seen much love either and it surprises me. I wish the scratch sound would be better but I don’t really scratch much yet anyway. Also, I have one MAJOR complaint. I feel that hot cues are the most important part of mixing, but the hot cues are shift keys on the controller, which makes it more difficult to easily use hot cues. I wish that the hot cues were set buttons and not shift keys. Otherwise, the controller is a very solid one. I like the browsing knob feature and the one-button deck load feature as well. Thumbs up for the Numark N4!
