    Thanks for posting.

Please include a track list next time. Also, all mixes reviewed by me should be between 60 and 90 minutes long. These two points have affected your OVERALL DIRECTION score, unfortunately.

This is a high-energy mix, and that’s frequently the point of dance-music: high-energy, the world is f*cked let’s dance! Great attitude behind your track selection — well done.

That said, your transitions and beatmatching ability leave something to be desired: try and stretch out the sweet spot a little more (the sweet spot is when both records are perfect beatmatched and you achieve a new, enhanced, sound). Mix in the next record in the right place and keep ‘em both going for a while.

Mixing in key is always recommended with harmonious dance music styles. At 19:40 you’ve picked just the right track to transition to but you should’ve brought it in sooner and kept it ‘in the mix.’ Missed opportunity…

By the way, great house classic starting at 20:00.. terrific choice!

In short: you might try programming your mix better ahead of time: what comes before what, etc. Do a test run, mix it up, rearrange as necessary and then hit that “record” button. Also keep your tracks organized by keys to achieve the perfect mix. But you are getting close to a harmonically-sound set, however. Looking forward to hearing your next production

Ornette’s Crazy is an interesting choice of an intro track; a little underwhelming. The intro track ought to advertise the rest of the mix, like a callout. Start with something smooth but with attitude. You start out with deep house and finish with progressive house — I tend to be genre- inconsistent, too 😉 no worries.

A good DJ production overall which shows that you have elevated taste in house music (the deep house genre is a thinking man’s dance-music genre). It’s a good thing that you added some bouncier, proghouse tracks towards the end. Keep in mind that there’s zero commercial value in deep house, something to consider when you’re trying to get on air or in large clubs and earn decent pay. Even though I dig the deep house sound, as someone who’s trying to get paid I know that those tracks had better stay home when I go out and work.

Well done . Thanks for posting

Celsius by Eddie Thoneick is not the best intro track. That’s a two-thirds of the way track, because of the buildup and all. Best to avoid buildup tracks in your intro.

Transitions: there are none, anywhere in the mix. Part of the point is to hit that in-the-mix spot and stay in it a little while, ‘make the tracks talk to each other.’

From Celsius to Million Voices there’s no story being told, why transition from the first to the next? How did you make the choice? Unless you know your music library and can line tracks up on the fly there need to be a little more thinking into this.

The strong point of your mix is the track selection; you go for high-energy tracks that are sure to get those hands in the air. Now you need to apply a program to it: line up your tracks in the right order, tell your story through your DJing, and make sure you’ve got long, progressive transitions in between tracks.

The mix from Hello to One was in key but you shouldn’t cut the next record when the first one has no beat, just a melody. Wait for the beat to start again and then start cutting in the next one.

Because of the complete lack of transition, I’m giving a low score. Looking forward to your next improved DJ mix. You might want to consider harmonic mixing, to follow keys a little better.

interesting bit, made me think intros for hip hop vs. house DJs. For the former, it’s a must–agreed (KL thanks for sharing that shortee soundcloud set–I do think I’m madly in love… chick djs, brrrrrrrr).

But what about for the latter? you hear a house set on the radio, there’s gotta be a pro intro, true. I add the occasional one to my mix set. On the other hand, perhaps intros ought to be left to the top DJs, let the newbie DJ demonstrate his skills through his mix..

(because a nobody DJ doesn’t really need an intro, just show your work)

and still.. intros do sound cool, make people notice perhaps.

Had mine done by a low-budget local production company, and it’s not great. Then I figured: I’ve got Garage Band, I’ve got Traktor. I should be able to cobble something together. put an ad up for a black female (accompanied if under 18 😉 to come and record a couple sentences for 20 euros, and them fools at the ad company pulled it because they figured I was tryna get fresh…

    shrugs… what’s a dj to do

I go on Beatport Pro and using the by-default autoplay feature I review all the tracks I haven’t already heard in whatever genre I’m interested in. It’s a perfect time for listening to stuff and flagging songs I’ll want to download (yea, beatport takes all my ducats these days)

that was quick! Thanks a lot Terry! if you could expand on, whenever you get a chance, on spicing up the transitions that would be great, because I can’t picture what you’re describing.
Yea, I’m really annoyed that I don’t get to use my Numark mixer.. I mean, I could, to just DJ, but my aim is always always to record, because then I get to review my own mixes and improve, but if I also happen to have recorded the all-stars baddest DJ mix on the planet, I’ll want to shop it around radio 😉

thanks again for taking the time… really cool

Si Boogie, what gear are you using? Might want to watch your levels more, sound is uneven, pan is irregular. Try auto-gain next time, by the way.. a good collection of tunes however… your mixing ability are a bit shaky still, however, that will come with practice.

    nice kickoff choon.
I played it, I hope the rest of the DDT community will get behind your mix, I’m sure when the time comes they’ll need your voice, too.

I’ve decided to score out of 20 than 10, for more flexibility.
6 points: track selection (fresh? danceable? A good example of dance music)
7 points: mixing ability (are records in sync, can you hear the records being beatmached–points lost–are they harmonically mixed)
6 points: continuity. Is there a progression in the mix, where does it go, is it telling a story?

    NADALSCORE 13/20

Very nice selection. I would up the tempo a little, if you use a master tempo I think 126 is a good compromise. This is a little too slow.
Work your mix, stay in it longer.. more harmonic mixing would be good, as well. there’s some clashes in here you need to watch out for. Do you know your tracks’ key? I would start keeping up with this information; you ought to know for each track the BPM it’s set at originally and its key.
I like that you’re able to mix it up proghouse and deep house as well. Commercially speaking it’s important to keep your proghouse skills sharp, as proghouse is what people listen to in club…

I used the flash of light track in my mix as well — bad ass track (I started with one version and finished with the other version I bought). Currently got my headphones on to review my own mix (uploading to SC as we speak) but I will take a listen just as soon as I can. Thanks for posting

Hey, nice to see another New Yorker on the boards… I lived in NYC for 14 years, now I’m in Paris. Anyway, welcome. Do you get DJ gigs out there in NYC?

incidentally if anyone has a comment on how to jump keys (like from F Minor to a Minor let me know thanks), or alternatively, are there keys that are spread apart on the Camelot wheel which are actually compatible? I know they say you want to remain within keys or neighbor keys, but are there super disparate keys that actually work together? Is there a chart for that?
