I’ve looked a bit into the VCI-300, but it seems to have bad (faulty) sound card, so I think I’ll find something else, probably the just-released NI S2. I’m kinda on a budget, meaning that I’m not keen on trying out a bunch of controllers only to have to return or resell them if they suck. The S2, and the S4, seem to be very high quality, from what I can see, so it’s down to which one to choose. But I think the S4 would be a bit of an overkill considering my current level and needs.
And btw., I’m on a macbook pro, but I guess all never controllers are compatible nowadays.
