MemberThere are thousands of threads about this on the internet, as a dj surely you should have some sort of prior knowledge or ideas of what you like…
Your best bet is too go out onto the internet and find a few controllers and ask about them to see what people think, also the kind of music you play would help, your price limit and what platform you are going to be running it on (windows or mac). if you want to use digital vinyl/cd or complete controller based setup.if you have any other software already (you said musician so do you have ableton?)
Digital dj’ing is such a big realm that its hard to just say “I think you should get this…”
most software comes with Itunes intergration or at least click and drag from Itunes into a deck.
as far as easy simple controls, nearly all programs out there let you map software-controllers how you want so in fact you can have a loop button that actually works as a play button or a bass knob thats a volume knob etc….
its all about how you work as a person and what youd like. check out http://www.htfr.com and see what controllers interest you.

Membergo for an oldish laptop bag, nothing with branding, I use an old dell bag but has no logo’s

Membernot sure if serator works for the hercules I cant imagine it doing so though, there are a couple specific serato controllers but dont think hercules do any. I personally think you will outgrow virtual dj fast like I did years ago.

Memberit depends what you use to mix, computer based setup house or any 4/4 genre is as easy as pressing play. as for difficult: rock music is hard to transition, blues, jazz, and the odd dubstep but is easier then the above…. anything with live elements is usually harder then those made on machines.

Member+1 on the beer,
plus making love is usually pretty good also! spesh if the person its with was impressed with your set!mr stifffy
MemberI myself would rather use the more complex software with minimal features then play for a while and find out im lacking control. if you have a program already stick to it traktor 2 is a fair bit of money to just ditch. I changed from vdj to traktor 1 and found it hard at first since it was so different, after a while I got used to it and found it complimented my style and djing a lot more!

Memberdog licence, tv licence, road tax, income tax, its all stupid ways of making money, I had a dvd player in my car before and a cop asked me did I have a licence for it!

Memberget good enough where promoters send you songs before they come out, levels has been in my collection for months along with several legal remixes 🙂 perks of promotions companys I guess.

sorry I meant you either need a serato box which I suppose is the same as a laptop with soundcard, but if a place doesnt have turntables or cdj’s you need them also, with other programs you can get a small soundcard and just use your laptop keyboard or a mini controller (korg nanos etc). or for serato itch you need a dedicated controller for itch. but then after looking at the name its asking for a good itch controller so ill just stick the ns6 down here 🙂 if it had better fx control for traktor I would pick one up myself tomorow 🙂 but for itch its amazing!

MemberI dont really like fighting specially when djtt always has fights (it is the main reason I come here now) but I like people to do work also :), if people have specific questions I will gladly help, but asking for it done for them reminds me of that whole “dj 5 dolla holla” thing that was floating around for a while.

Then you play the song (provided you have it with you!) – It’s about a very Zen way of thinking.
Everything else is just style and polish.
exaclty 🙂 all about taking the audience on a subliminal emotional rollercoaster that in 5 years time they will be like remember those days!! 🙂
