ParticipantWhat I am finding is most of the songs will be off by 1/8th of a beat before or after the 1st downbeat. Sometimes the cue points are off by a 1/2 beat or even a 1/2 measure after the first downbeat. I even have some songs where the first cue point is way before the music even starts. All these issue are on songs that have correct beatgrids.
I did notice when Mixed In Key gets it right it does start on the beginning of a phrase. For example it will set cue points on the 1st down beat of measure 1,9,17,25… and so on.
One of the problems I see with this feature is if the song beatgrid is not analysed correctly it will drop the first cue point on the start of the music wherever that beat may start.
I know this is not going to be perfect and I don’t expect it to be. If anything I will use it more as suggestions on where to place my cue points and edit as I go along.

ParticipantSo far from my experience with Mixed In Key 7 it gets the cue points right about 60% of the time. If you go to the forum on the Mixed In Key website other people are having the same issues I’m having. I’m running Serato on a MacBook Pro.

ParticipantYou should check out the new Chauvet DJ Gig Bar. I’ve seen it for about $449. Perfect for Mobile DJ work.http://youtu.be/sXDAtutWPFE

ParticipantIf you go to the Pioneer DJ website they have a chart at the bottom of the page where you can compare the SX/SX2 and SR. http://pioneerdj.com/english/products/controller/
The Reloop website has the TM8 product page with all the specs. http://www.reloop.com/reloop-terminal-mix-8
You have to decide which features are important to you and how much money you have in your budget. All 3 controllers are good selections based on your needs, wants and budget. If I was in the market to purchase a controller the 3 you have chosen would be my choices.
I looked at the Reloop website and their Forum seems to be very active. You can always go to the Serato DJ website and post any problems and questions you may have about your controller there.
I also have and like the Pioneer DDJ SR along with the SX and SX2. It’s a great controller for the money.

ParticipantI find the Serato Flip buttons are useful to experiment editing songs without harming the original file of the song. If you do an edit and you don’t like it you can just record it again until you get what you like. I find it useful for extending intros and doing quick edit of songs. After you do a flip you have the option of turning it on or off when you load and play the song. You can also do Serato flips with the SX. If you go to the Serato’s website they have a section on Serato Flip with videos and a manual. By the way I own both the SX and SX2. I also played on a Reloop controller in the store. You can’t go wrong with either but I am very pleased with the Pioneer.

ParticipantI also like the needle search function. I find it very useful. Most people don’t realize with the DDJ SX2 you can adjust the needle search function in Utility mode. You can restrict operation so if you accidentally hit it, it won’t jump to that point. When restricted you can only use needle search function when you are touching the top of the jog dial or when playback is stopped.

ParticipantCongratulations on your successful gig!!! Nice to see someone take the time to prepare and use the resources available to them. I would of never thought about looking up “songs white girls like to dance to.” You nailed it with your research. “Play the tunes people know, a couple they don’t, and remember that you are there for them, not the other way around.” You are on your way….

ParticipantI like using “Keyfinder”. I find it easy to use. It’s not perfect but I’m ok with that. When I do come across a song that has the wrong key it forces my ears to do the work.

ParticipantHere is a great guide. The Practical Guide to Coordinating Your Wedding – Djhenrybaker …
http://www.djhenrybaker.com/docs/Guide.pdfIt won’t take the place of “The Complete 21st Century Wedding DJ”, but it wil answer a lot of your questions.

ParticipantWith the Mixtrack Edge you can adjust the pitch by pressing the pitch button and moving the jogwheel. It may not have pitch faders but you still can beatmatch manually instead of using sync. It actually works pretty good with Virtual DJ. For what this unit is it actually functions pretty well as a backup. It is also fun to mix on this thing sitting in front of my desktop when I don’t feel like pulling out my Macbook Pro and Pioneer DDJ SX.

ParticipantI would recommend the Numark Mixtrack Edge. It is portable and can fit inside any computer bag. It is about the size of a iPad. It has RCA out and headphone out. You can nudge the platters and adjust the BPM’s of a song. If you are looking for something with a small footprint and inexpensive (about $150.00 or less) it works great with Virtual DJ.

ParticipantSerena, If you go to the Pioneer website you will find a video on how to set up Virtual DJ LE for the DDJ-Wego. Maybe this can answer some of your questions and concerns.

ParticipantWhy is this so bad? In the old days we had 2 turntables, basic mixing board and a few crates of records. We had no special effects but we rock the party every time with our skills and song selection. Maybe it’s time to get back to the basics.
