Why not just use the default mapping that comes with the mikro to control traktor? It already has deck a and b h

I actually have a soundcad as well . Komplete Audio 6. Which I use for routing as well. But yeah for the most part the two channels are for decks a b. The F1 I only use on Decks C and D and I use the faders to control the volume for only those decks. I was going to use the F1 and midi map it but its strength i think is for samples, layering etc; so I mapped my mikro instead to control all my cue points, effects, and loop recorded.

Agreed. I have the F1 and you can switch between decks so fast that 2 is not needed unless your really into triger samples/loops etc;. I run it along with my S2 and maschine mikro. I think they all complement each other quite well.

I use deck A and B for the S2 and I keep two remix decks open C,D for the remix decks. I tend to make my own remix sets based on my style. I like to layer percussion on vocals on to house/electro tracks in the above decks.

I midi mapped my mikro to control the effects in Traktor so when I am not using maschine for production the controller still has a use when I DJ. I havent gotten into using maschine as live inpiut yet. I would use it for live finger drumming but I am nowhere close to the point where I woudl be comfortable performing with it in a live situation.

Recently just started making my own drums loops in maschine to use in the remix deck slots as well. I prefer to make my own sounds so I no that it is unique to my style and no one else has them.

I think the price is right If you know your going to be spending alot of your free time with them.

    Possibilities are endless!

I started off with the first vestax spin and used djay algorithm. Then bought a vesrax pad one for finger drumming. Thats as far as it went lol.

I now have the S2 and F1 using Traktor. Got the Maschine Mikro for production and a KA6 as my sound card. KRK Rokit 5’s, Crane Stand Pro and Moda Cross Fade LP 2’s.

I think I am good for now….the last piece of gear I would get would probably be a midi keyboard but not for a while. Still so much to learn with the NI gear.

check out this post by DJ Endo at Dubspot. Alot of great things in there. I did most of what he has to say in there and when I want a particular type of track I search by Genre, Mood, and Descripitors and I have no trouble finding what I’m looking for, often several possibilities come up that can go with the direction I want to move in with my set.

    I think the key is getting your playlists to work for you and almost turning it into a google search engine. Just find what method works for you really. I would say to first clean out all your old tracks you dont realy play and start with tracks you want to keep or are requested often etc;

Maschine is an individualist performance tool and works well with Maschine Software only. There is no need to map it to the Maschine software, you need to programm it however what it should do. That however nobody can tell you, I have no idea what you want to play with Maschine as the possibilities are A LOT. So my best bet would be to go to youtube and search for some Maschine tutorials. Maschine is no easy tool to master.

Actually maschine is also a midi controller and can be mapped to any software the has mapping capabilities. I have the maschihine mikro with the f1 and an s2 using traktor. However I do agree with Terry in that it works the best with the Maschine software.

have you looked into the basic maschine mapping for traktor that comes with maschine? It has control over transport and 8 cue points each for Deck A and B. Im sure that can help if your into playing around with your hot cues as you mentoned.

Check some youtube videos and there are some where you can sync the maschine clock to the master of traktor so everything you do in maschine is always in sync with the master tempo in traktor (that is if you want to start using some loops in maschine w/ traktor). I also like using maschine as live input into a traktor deck. This way you use vsts in maschine then route into traktor for a whole world of possibilities.

also check out the website maschinetutorials.com it has amazing tutorials on maschine. Soem are free and some a paid subscription. I pay for it and it is by far the best site to learn everything you need about maschine.

I think before you starting thinking on how to use maschine with all your other gear its important to see what it can do as a stand alone unit then you will have a much better idea of how you want to use everything together.

One area that I have always struggled to perfect is time management.

What I want to know is how you make the most productive use of your free time with regards to DJing?

    – Hunting for new tracks
    – Learning the tracks inside out
    – Practising mixing / creating new mixes
    – Learning new skills
    – Organising your music

Those are just some of the things off the top of my head that I use my free time doing, but it can be a headache prioritising sometimes. So what is your priority order? Do you have a set schedule or method you follow? Is there anything else I haven’t listed that you make time for?

    – Researching the industry (Like reading the articles on this site for example or other blogs) I think its pretty important to knwo whats going on with new technoloy, different techniques etc;

I use to have a schedule like that I made. liek for 2 hours i would practice beat juggling and another hour practing mixes etc; but I have never been one to stick to a schedule

So now I kind of just go with the flow but I always make sure I have a purpose when I’m sitting down. Lately I have been doing more lists that I check off. For instance on my list right now is….

    1. Finishing Maschine Mikro Mapping for Traktor
    2. Finish “Save us Track in Maschine”
    3. Add cue points/beat grid all tracks in Traktor
    4. Get songs together for next mix

This way I can work on each at my own leisure and they take up quite alot of time however I know I always have something I can do. With regards to downloading music I dont even have it on the list cause I pretty much do it al the time. If I hear something I really like I have to get it right away. I wouldnt wait for a particular day to download it.

I work 55 hours a week at my full time job in graphic design so the free time I have has to be properly!

I actually try to use all 8 in traktor mainly because recently I have been doing alot more cue point juggling. Every song has interesting/recognizable parts that can be used

#1 Load marker where I want the song to start
#2 An alternative start to a song. Say its liek a trance track that has a long into. I may want to start it further into the track
#3 Breakdown/Vocals/Build-up (pending on the track)
    #4 The Drop /Mixout Point
    #5-6 Mixout Point
#7-8 Snare Drum, Vocal or anything interesting really towards the end of the track that can be used

I also tend to write comments in traktor for some cue points. Mostly for vocals . Like if in the song theres a part that says “Drop the bass” I will write that down. It heps me to find more commonalities between music. I like to mix alot of gneres so so mixing with words is another way for me to bridge the gap between genres.

Buffaz i did thanks for the advice iv gone with the maschine it seems more interesting!
KierenJames hahaha in one of ean goldens videos they said that maschine is going to work the remix decks very soon so dont stress about it 🙂

Agreed! I have a maschine mikro and intially I started using it with maschine softtware just for production but when I got more comfortable with mapping in traktor I started using it as a midi controller. I use it to control my cue points and I have assigned effect combinations to different buttons while in midi mode. You can pretty much do what you want with it, very versatile which is why I like it because you def. get more bang for your buck! Would have been good if you picked it up while it was on sale this past whille.

If you wanted it to trigger yoour samples, as mentioned by Kiieren James above you would have control of the top row of samples. Keep in mind you will need to work with the controller manager in th NI folder to ge tthe functions working properly.

I’m sure when the new maschine and mikro come out they might just permanently lower the price on the olde rmodels.

yeah theres so many ways to do to map in traktor….i just got into it more recently after several days of trial and error. just really a bunch of if/then statements.

if you have any free buttons on your controller why now just assign one of them to decrease the bass only and another button or modifier to increase it. That way you know that the one single button will always decrease the bass and alternatively when you want to bring it back up use can use another button or modifier to bring it up.

Even if you want to kill the bass completely and bring a new track in you can just assign a button to completely kill the low end (toggle mode so you can turn it on and off)…just make sure to turn it back on when your using the deck again

I’m not at home to look at the controller manager in traktor but possibly even setting a specifically value to turn the bass down when you press it once and then when you press it again it resets to zero.

I use traktor for simple re-edits and for its effects but when I want to get more detailed I use maschine.
