I’ve only got a few hundred songs I would use live, a few different playlists for different genres. But since I normally only do it in y room, I don’ get to figure out what people really like and what they want to hear, so my collection for live use is limited. But for listening, I have about 3.5 thousand songs, many of them from CD and mix cd’s so I pay less per song on average.

Oh sorry, definitely a pair of solid headphones!!!! Mine are great, but not suited for DJing (isolation wise)

Good question. I’m most likely looking at getting a controller for Traktor Pro 2 or a new sound card and/or better speakers. I fell prey to the marketing trap last year and am stuck with Bose speakers. I payed far too much for far too little.

I’m 15 aswell and can somewhat relate to what you wrote.
Im turning 16 in 2 weeks (July 14) and I’m really trying hard to convince my parents to get me a Laptop for my birthday :S. I’m using 4 Year-old $8 speakers (lmfao I think I need new speakers, but I use great studio moniter headphones) with my $700 custom pc which I use to make my mixes with.
I myself also <3 Dubstep and Drum & Bass.
Also, I would love to start getting into trance, could you reccomend me some decent artist or your favorite songs?
My parents arn’t supportive at all with ym DJ’ing stuff but I don’t let that get in the way of what I love to do 🙂

Also I was wondering, when did you first really start getting into mixing? :D

Well if you want to start getting into trance (im new to it also), you should have a look at Armin van Buuren’s “State of Trance” mixes which are great starting places. I’m sure online you can find what songs are in some of his mixes, but I love those ones, and there are a whole lot of them. And about getting into mixing, I mean literally 3 weeks ago, I thought of it, and dove right in. How about you? Glad to know we have the same interests and are the same age. And the thing is, I don’t really make mixes and record stuff yet, I prefer to do small live sets in my bedroom by myself. I think I’ll be more live DJ with real-time mixing instead of a producer/mixer, but I’m sure my interests will change over time. And yeah, my parents are happy that I have found an interest but what they don’t like is that I am often alone, mixing and making playlists and listening to music, seemingly absorbed into the computer. So they are supportive of almost everything I do, but DJing isn’t a favorite of theirs based on how much isolation it ca lead to. So what I’m trying to say is, they support me, but it’s not like they will buy me stuff or even let my buy my own DJ equipment, or even push me to go practice.

If you are looking for a laptop, you should check craigslist for some used macbooks or macbook pro’s for the portability and stability aspect. There is nothing wrong with a PC but I just like a mac because of the dependability of the operating system. I got a great deal for this mac. I traded my 400$ dell for it, best trade I have ever made.

And thanks Phil, nice to meet you. Excited to be part of this!
