Memberoh hahhaha i see exactly what you’re saying, never applied that thought to this topic before…. hmm, although it’s pronounced (fyouks) i see why that would be a problem and get it all the time actually. thanks for the input, it definitely changed my thinking on this. 🙂

MemberThanks everyone!! But I think when the time comes, I would like my DJ name to be my last name. Eventually I’ll figure it out.

MemberI think there is actually a “threatening” element involved in this prejudice. Just over time, I’ve come to learn that women are USUALLY (not always) better at reading people and figuring out what they are thinking, kind of the way a mother can comfort you when sometimes a father can’t. So it might even be that it’s a little threatening that you have these “foreign” people coming into the industry who might be better than you (men) at reading the crows and sending out the right vibe. It blows my mind to know what a big role women play in the world and society as a whole and how much they contribute, yet, are still looked down upon as inferior. It’s just the “old-fashion” in some people who don’t expect to see women in the workforce, so they take it as a threat to their position since it is unfamiliar. I have to go get dressed up for the wedding as I’m a groomsman, but I’ll definitely come back to this thread to continue my post.

MemberOk everyone! Just managed to get online at the hotel in Mexico and thought I would update you all on how it went. So i set up, they had all the necessary cables, and hooked up to 2 18″ Kapton PA units. The musikc started off a little slow, by request of the bride and groom, but I decided to amp it up after the first hour once it got dark. I threw on some top-40 remixes and even some EDM, and immediately, people go up and started dancing. I mean really dancing. Given, everyone had consumed a few (or ten) drinks, but still, they were dancing like I couldn’t believe. I had people coming up to me the entire night telling me what a great job I was doing and addressing me as DJ Mike (i laught every time i hear that). As the night went on, the party got better. I went for 3 1/2 hours straight and loved it. There was one point where I needed a break, so thanks to Prof Deusc., I had pre-mixed a half-hour’s worth of music, so I threw it on and took a break. I ran into a few minor problems and my mixing was not top-notch, but overall, I was pretty satisfied with my job. A few people offered me tips which i politely declined since this was a family event and I was having so much fun anyway. I am SOOOO happy I did this and will definitely continue. I really fed off of the compliments that people were giving me, and I think that’s what let me continue for so long (it was long for me). So thanks for all the tips everyone, they really came in handy and I definitely wouldn’t have done as good a job without you. Much thanks, Mike.

MemberDude, that is an incredible deal. Say YES and make sure you test everything really well and if he is shipping it, make sure he has a return policy and ask for a email detailing his return policy so that it is almost impossible you get scammed.

MemberOk thanks guys, I’m making recorded mixes now and am also beatgridding a few of those tricky songs and finding out the potential order I would want the music in. Thanks all!
Michael Fuchs
Memberoh and about recording, I’m mixing purely in traktor without any external mixers or devices. I use my keyboard as a controller.
Michael Fuchs
Memberthanks!

MemberYeah I like the idea of creating a back-up mix but how would I go about recording the mix? I mean physically, what would I click or what would I have to download to do it? And thanks newportdj drew, I’ll be sure to relax and not be intimidated by the requests.

MemberJust want to congratulate all you parents out there and add that your kids are very lucky to have DJ parents, I wish my dad could even clap in time with a crowd at a concert. Not even a joke, I swear to you. :).

MemberI’m mediocre on the saxophone although I used to be pretty good. With the discovery of electronic music a year and a half ago, I spend more time listening to music than making it (saxophone) and so I have gotten worse over time believe it or not.

MemberEmma, you have some very thought intriguing posts. Let me just say quickly that I play saxophone and am teaching myself guitar and love both, but when I start mixing, I am on a whole different level of music appreciation and love for what I’m doing. I like the saxophone but it gives me nowhere near the same rush and intense love and admiration for great music as when I put on my headphones and attempt to beat match.

MemberEmma, that’s really impressive and admirable, congrats on passing the certification test with flying colors!! I’m just a high school student and for cash I walk dogs and fix kids’ iPods if the screen (technically face plate or digitizer) is cracked. I am hoping to start DJing at small house parties soon just for fun and to get my name out there and maybe in a few years I could earn some cash like that.
