    Oh wow, thanks so much Emma! That’s great, but one more question. What do I have to set up ahead of time, meaning what IP do I use to stream to, I mean I understand how to do what it says on that page, but how do I set everything up before that so that I can just plug in the address and stream it. Sorry, I’m quite new to this whole thing.

    in reply to: Hi everyone, DJ from Raleigh, NC #4172

    Welcome to the forums Wondershock. I actually just moved back from Raleigh to the old town I had previously lived in in Massachusetts and I loved it there. One of the things I was excited to do (hadn’t done it yet) was go to one of the raves, as they were not huge, and minors could generally get in. I planned on going in a month or so after I learned of them, but am glad I didn’t because the main one that kids from my school went to (called it the Warehouse, as it was a big abandoned warehouse that was tricked out) was busted one night by the cops and a bunch of kids got arrested. I regret not going though because there is nothing like that up in MA. Anyway, now that I’ve gone off on a tangent, it’s nice to meet you and I’m glad you could join the great community here on the forums.

    Hey Paul, nice to meet you (again!). Sorry for your loss. I’m glad you decided to come check it out here, it’s really a great, tightly knit community of people who are here really only to socialize and help each other out. That’s why I love it so much here. Also, sounds like that new act will be pretty interesting based on the diversity of the music, I’m excited to hear it. I am about to head out, but will check out your soundcloud when I get home tonight.

    I was 14 when I started on my DJ’ing (Career); and like you I had to get what I could with what Money I had available;
    But to hear that you are Serious at Age 15; have some Backing from your Parents; and are already doing Small Parties is Brilliant 🙂

    Wow this really means a lot to me, very glad I came across that way! I too am very excited and continue to get more and more sucked into this new “world”. It’s good to know that you too got into this at a young age, and it makes me excited seeing how far you’ve gone. Thanks for the encouragement!

    Thanks jezalenko, I have sknowledged that and am aware that low quality speakers will break, but as emma said, they are only temporary. But since active were so much more expensive, I think i’ll get passive with a powerful amp, so that for my next pair, I have the choice of passive or active. remember, I’m only 15 and doing very small parties. thanks for the input 🙂

    and phil, I have been looking for used but can’t find what i want – yet. I think at the moment, only two mid-high speakers are in my price range, but in a month or two after purchase, a sub might be in my budget. I’ll update you all on anything new, thanks so much for the help. 🙂

    Also, i talked to my parents about it and so far, so good. My mom looks upon the idea positively but my dad may need a little convincing. but overall, looking good on the idea. thanks again everyone!

    Thanks so much Emma, I really appreciate the help! I will definitely be sleeping on this one (for at least 2 or 3 weeks) so I will have plenty of time to think about it. And yes, they will only be my primary speakers for 6-18 months or so, so I am not too worried about them, and worst case scenario, I end up with an extra pair of speakers that didn’t cost me much. It’s not like I’m spending thousands. So again, thanks, and I’ll give you an update on any changes. 🙂

    Oh just saw your post, thanks Emma! Well I have no specifics in mind other than portability (I’m not very strong) and price. So I have decided on going with passive speakers for the sake of price and since I will be able to use the amp in the future for other purposes. I know I am a complete amateur here and some of you are probably dying looking at this link, but this is what my bassline is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007LCKPU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER . I know that they are very cheap and not the greatest or even very good at all, but I only need something to do the job for a year or two.

    So I’ve decided I’m going with passive speakers. I’m looking at smaller models from 10-12 inch, so do you think that a PA speaker with a 10″ sub would output enough volume at 150 watts? I don’t know a whole lot about sound and I know that the more accurate way to measure is by db and something else, but its confusing for me. I just don’t want them to be too weak. thanks.

    Oh thanks for the quick reply Emma. That’s great to hear. I am disappointed though because it always came up under my search terms on amazon for specifically “pairs” of speakers. I’ll have to keep looking because that is out of my budget. Thanks though!!
    ps: i was wondering how they could be so cheap!!

    Love the Susan Boyle reference! Hell of a voice! More gorgeous than any physical features, IMO.

    Yes, thanks very much! Im happy to hear the good news, I would love a link to listen to it when finished 🙂 But I agree, accepting it is half the battle. I think it made me stronger, and accept it as a part of myself. But once again, keep up the good work, I love reading your posts and being able to feel your strength through only words.

    Well if a mac is not in your price range, you should google “Hackintosh”. What that means is that you can install the Mac OS (operating system) on a Windows PC depending on the compatibility of the parts. There are sites you can look at to see what pre-assembled computers are compatible with this process, but the process is actually fairly easy now. A year ago, it took hours of programming, but now it’s as easy as wiping a computer, loading a disk, running two programs, and clicking install. This would let you have the stability and ease-of-use of the Mac OS, at the price of any compatible Windows computer + 30 USD for the install disk. I would definitely do some searching about this because although I’m on a Mac now, my next computer will be a Hackintosh.

    Emma, I really give you a lot of credit for continuing this art despite the additional challenges you must endure. I have OCD and my main obsession was sanitation, so I actually pretty much gave up with fighting it for awhile and ate very little, losing wayy too much weight. I fixed that problem and luckily I don’t have any other things like that that affect my daily activity too much. Sorry went on a tangent there. But what I am trying to say is off topic but here it is: I can appreciate how much you love to DJ and how much effort you are willing to put into it. You give DJ’s a good name, especially female DJ’s. You appear to be a very strong individual and I admire your passion. I know i’m ranting here but it just strikes me as impressive that you continue with it despite the troubles of setting up and even mixing. Great job, keep it up!!
