You’ll probably play on pioneer gear, which means letting rekordbox analyse the tracks and then exporting your collection or playlists to a usb stick. You can do it without rekordbox, but that means having less info on screen. Traktor’s analysis is not only different, it’s not stored in the tracks themselves. And you wouldn’t use an xbox savegame on a playstation either, would you?

No is the most powerful word in the world. Use it.

Does it have an AMD processor? Serato doesn’t really play nice with all AMD’s unfortunately…

Get used to it by ear, then the waveforms automatically make sense no matter where you see them. You won’t even need them anymore after a while.

What is your level right now? I don’t think Terry will like this very much, but you can learn a lot on youtube from channels like ellaskins, djbolivia, djtechtools and digitaldjtips absolutely free. And it’s not just some of those “what is a crossfader” tutorials, it goes pretty deep.

What you need to do is look at where you are now, and where you want to be. Only then will you be able to see what skills are neccesary and how you will aquire them. Grabbing the most expansive (not expensive, expAnsive) tutorial set is absolutely useless if you don’t know what you’re going to do with it.

Terry, I recall you saying to me that I should not enter a discussion without knowing what I’m talking about. Yet I see you do the same thing now.

Using a non-standard controller works just fine. Lots of companies provide mappings for them that work just fine as well. I started with a Mixtrack Pro II with Traktor. The jogs are the only controls that are worse compared to the S2/S4, but you’ll only suffer if you want to scratch on them. As jogs used for searching or nudging they work, again, just fine.

    Please practise what you preach.

I’ve heard that wood glue works pretty well, but I’m not a vinyl guy so I haven’t tried. There’s an entire thread on it on djtt.

In Traktor you can set the root directory of your native instruments stuff (collection, mappings, etc), samples directory, remix deck directory, itunes and of course your music collection.

Don’t use the latest firmware on the 400 when using traktor, it gives issues. Look around on the net which one to use instead.

Look on the site of mixvibes, I believe the have a list of controllers where they provide a mapping for. If you tell us what controller(s) you wish to use I can look wether my copy of Cross has a mapping for it. But simply searching online for mixvibes mapping will probably get you some unofficial ones easily.

I usually say I’m not interested over and over until they hang up, but sometimes I have a little fun with them. Especially the lottery people. They are REALLY dishonest. So I tell them that the moment they tell a lie, they will automatically be disconnected. Then I ask them if they want to sell lottery tickets. Of course they say no, but after a minute or so they almost directly admit to be selling tickets. Then I tell them very politely they are full of it and hang up. These days, I don’t get any of the lottery people anymore. Just like I don’t get any Jehova’s witnesses ringing my doorbell, I’m probably on their blacklist as well 😛

I don’t know, but it would be easy to find out by reading the manuals and looking at pictures of the layout.

I’d say more than ready. If you can beatmatch without phase meters and bpm readouts you’ll be fine. Just remember that the waveforms will be much cruder or even non-existant. But if you’re uncertain, try to borrow or rent a cdj setup and try it out. If you rent it in the middle of the week it shouldn’t be that expensive either. Ask clubs what they use and read the manuals for their gear.
