ParticipantAs a sidenote: no, Platinum Notes will NOT fix this. When you’ve limited the dynamic range, there’s no way back. Buying vinyl and then ripping to mp3 is not worth it in my opinion. Even if the dynamic range is better.

ParticipantYou’re getting old, Vintage 😛
The joke is pretty funny if you know the story behind the lawsuits tracks like Stairway to Heaven endured at the time.Marco Solo
ParticipantTraktor puts a beatmarker on the first transient it finds and you can set the option to make it a hotcue. I don’t find it that handy though, I prefer to do it manually. If you’re having to set cuepoints for hundreds of tracks week after week, you’re getting too much music. Stick to the ones you REALLY like instead of adding the entire beatport top 100.

ParticipantUpdate the S4 Driver, the ASIO driver (if seperate) and check if the distortion goes away if you increase the amount of samples, ie. increase latency.

ParticipantI understand and thanks for the elaboration, but let me react to one point you made. You said it’s more complicated and “nastier” in your experience.
I’ve made mappings in both Traktor and Cross and I agree that the basics are harder to learn in Traktor. But in my experience, once you have those basics it kind of switches in favor of Traktor.
It is much easier to map fancy stuff in Traktor. In some cases, I find Cross not making much sense and I have to use a lot of trial and error to find the right settings for certain commands. Sample slot behaviour for my F1 was a pain to map in Cross. Some commands aren’t even possible in Cross AFAIK but kind of easy (it’s all relative) to do in Traktor.
I agree with your last point. I’m in a position where I don’t even care what software a controller is made for, because I can force it to do what I want through mappings. But hey, I’m a total nerd when it comes to mapping, so my experience is unlikely to be simmilar to yours. And once again, feel free to disagree with anything I said.
I have a hunch that the problem of OP is easy to fix. There are multiple ways of importing a mapping file and if you don’t understand what the in and out ports do you can set those wrong very easily. These things combined are very common and take less than a minute to fix.

ParticipantWhy are you always asking that about Traktor, but never about Serato or Cross, Vintage?

ParticipantI don’t know, but there is kind of a double standard going on anyway. Some companies get away with selling samples (in sample packs none the less) that are clearly taken from an existing track. And some poor bloke in his bedroom trying to make a cool remix and even giving it away for free gets sued from every angle. I don’t really know what to believe anymore.

ParticipantI know how to map in Traktor. What’s the problem? Doesn’t the provided mapping from Gemini work?

ParticipantJust mention one of those consumer rights organisations and it’ll be magically fixed within a week 😛

ParticipantI bet all these “next generation” controllers will be used by people to mask their lack of imagination and lack of skill. They say it keeps them from looking at their laptop all the time. I bet they’ll now be looking at their controller all the time instead…
But hey, if it keeps the economy going, I’m all for it.Marco Solo
ParticipantNO! You don’t say! You’re a genius, Vintage! 😛

ParticipantSX? Surely you meant SB?

ParticipantI’ve had only a few goes at playing with CDJ’s (and I mean a few songs, not a few nights) and I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, really. If you can beatmatch that’s already more than you need. A club will have a CDJ900 or better, normally. This means it has decent waveforms, bpm display up to 1 decimal point and plenty of options in terms of playlists. All of which you already use in your software. And the new nexus line even has sync.

ParticipantThe Mixtrack is a good controller for the price. It’s pretty well built too, you can see on youtube what ellaskins did to it and it kept working. I’ve started with it too and still use it if I play somewhere like a birthday where I don’t trust everybody.

ParticipantI would advise against an S2 or S4, even though I’m a fan of Traktor. They have poor build quality and won’t last you very long if you play out. Almost all of it is plastic. I own a DDJ-SR and it has solid build quality, so does the Denon. Reloop is also excellent in terms of build quality. The Ergo is, like Terry said, a toy.
