Truth be told to get an idea of how they work the mic youtube videos of Kid Capri, Funkmaster Flex and DJ Premier. Capri especially was an early master of the Mic Work for hip hop DJ’s. Keep in mind you are really looking to keep the crowd up without over doing it. Even repeating certain portions of songs will help you achieve your goal. Depending on where you live you can also get a “hype” person…Here in Philly you shake a tree and 10 fall out hip hop DJ’s here usually had a habit of having them because they didn’t talk to much. Will Smith started out as Jazzy Jeff’s hype man and MC Marvelous and a dude named Supreme All World were DJ Cash Money hype men and even now Skillz serves as Jeff’s hype man so you don’t need to talk. Get a person you know that has an outsized personality, witty and slick with their ability to turn a phrase and voila there you go.

And before that in the 40s and 50s you had the black radio jocks with “jive” talk that predates the MC. In the end our black brothers just know how to throw a rhyme its in your blood lol Respect!

For websites that aggregate and filter mashup content try Bootie and Mashup Town. Most of mashup producers I follow post most of their own content online, including Party Ben and DJ Lobsterdust.

Then there’s my stuff (shameless self promotion link).

Apologies for the late reply! Thank you so much for the feedback!

fyi absolutely love your ….. awesome track dude!

Just remember I am not disturbing I will be only playing this out nor will this be on any mix a post or anything

I dont know if it is related but here in my country I am a member of the south african music royalties organization, each year they asses on how many times and venues I played and charge me the royalties, doesnt that kinda give me permission to play any type of music in shape and form?

For years, he was just a record player, he only recently learned how to produce music, correct?
Everyone is being played, and when i find him, i shall break his fingers.

People tend to forget that some are in this game to make money and if they are going to do it by “commercializing” their music then why not? In any creative industry be it music or art or film, the watered down easy to understand in my comfort zone things sell. what gets me is that the so called “purist” or “real music lovers” hate on these people:rolleyes:

lol thank you never had a response to my real name like that, I wanted to use it but unfortunately there is also a very famous controversial rugby player here in South Africa with the same surname and the last thing I want is any association with him.

My surname is afrikaans and locally its a very common surname but judging from your repsonse if I should every make it big and international this would work! 😀
If all else fails there is always Demon Dubs! 😉

Well what you say makes totally sense and good feedback however it will take me a long while before I will be able to afford a Mac they just way to expensive and besides the Denon MC 6000 is in my radar,

I currently have a Dell Studio 1558 Intel i5 430M at 2.27 Ghz running Windows 7 64Bit and 4Gig Ram and Traktor Pro with my Vestax VCI 100

I also run Tune Up utilities which has function called Turbo Mode that takes away alot of non essential background programs which helps alot

I still like making mixes/mixtapes more.

I have nothing against mashups, but I do feel at times when I hear most of them that it tells me we’re not moving forward musically, but living in the past. I worry when I hear sets that DJs claim is “all new stuff”, but it’s really old anthems with new beats and sounds tossed in.

I always say this: “A mashup with Bon Jovi in it will just come off as Bon Jovi to the audience. They won’t notice nor care that you cleverly remixed it with some other tunes…they’re just paying attention to the familiar bit you played.”

I just think it’s important that underground or mainstream…DJs should challenge the crowd a bit with new stuff they don’t know, but might like. Too many guys I see playing mashed up stuff (not the Girl Talk types of people) simply just play nonstop familiars and never deviate into new territory unless it ends up on the radio.

I totally agree, sorry if this sounds a bit harsh but people are sheep, especially when it comes to music, that is why we call it commercial mainstream right. Since I been playing at our local bar/restaurant I tried to educate but the problem was I didnt get any response really, so what I do these days is I’ll play one or two tracks new, underground, interesting, stuff and then play n mainstream song and so and so on. Just to keep the familiarity, and must say its working thus far.

My problem is that even tho there is bridge these days between top 40 hits and EDM majority of these songs are bad IMO (not dissing the top 40 djs just my opinion, each to its own) so I find myself digging into much older remixes

but back on topic, i would like to make a mash up/remix/bootlegs of couple of tunes that I wont know will rip the dancefloor apart and make that my signature tunes and set that sets me apart from other guys… well that is my hope
