Memberas much as the guide will be a good idea and a good starting point, I think its one of those things you have to stumble through. the first time you get in that booth and play three records you would have learnt more than you have in the entire time you have been dj’ing, even if you fuck it all up.

Memberyou can practise and practise but nothing will prepare you for the difference in volume the first time you playout in a proper booth. especially using the monitor and cue and also how different music sounds very loud.
these things you cant practise.

Memberhaving just started using vdj the sync button doesnt beat match spot on every time you still need to nudge here and there and ride the mix. it does make things a little easier if you havent got a controller though.
as rodders says though you need a back up. you should still know how to beatmatch manually, but as tech gets better youmay need never have to manually beat match again????

Membersurely you must be able to hear both the track playing out and the track to be mixed in in the headphones? the most basic of mixers will let you do this.
longmover
Member@ spektakx ive done that and it all works fine, but i can only monitor one track in headphones (the track im mixing in) why cant i listen to both tracks in the headphones?
longmover
Memberno controller involved, its headphones via a usb soundcard (thats plugged into laptop). the usb does have two outputs one for headphones and the other is mic.
do i need something else to get split cueing?

Memberif you are only ever going to use a computer to dj then you dont need to.

Membergood eyesight, it can be pitch black in there.

Memberwhat do you mean by dj’ing? scratching or beat mixing? if its beat mixing then it doesn’t really work as live music played by people changes tempo throughout and its really hard to keep in time with if dj’ing (mixing)
