Instead of writing them I’d give them a call during the day or show up one night and ask to talk to some people after hours. Talking to people in person as opposed to emails or even letters shows a greater level of commitment and they’re more likely to take you seriously that way. Sometimes you’ll have to be persistent and talk to them repeatedly too. My first real gig was DJing my college’s football tailgate and I got it by figuring out who ran the show and talking to them about getting on. Obviously depending on the club you’re thinking of hitting up you may wind up getting put in a very early warm-up slot or not even put on at all if they’re full up, but you have to start somewhere and you absolutely have to keep trying no matter what.
