Doesnt the pro have 2 pairs of rca outs? So just go to external mixer mode (or congigure the outputs per-deck) and map the crossfader to something useful.
I know you can do this in VDJ, Traktor, SSL, and Mixxx. I’m sure you can also do it with Serato intro and torq.

Uh, not sure what you mean by that. If you couldent find it, it’s right here: http://www.digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/plugins.1438/

I guess I’ll kick things off with a few of mine.
Glitch – DBlue (free) This is a multi-fx unit with several high-quality glitch type effects – think traktors fx. The filters sound amazing. Not sure if latency would prohibit use in djing.
Ambience – Magnus, Smartelectronix (free/donationware) Reverb, has a freeze button that holds the reverb tail.
GLoop – GVST (freeware) Lets you grab a chunk of audio and loop it, then add layers if you want. A bit like the Overloop in VirtualDJ or a simple version of the traktor loop recorder.
GLS! – tonebytes (freeware) Works with the stereo signal to remove the vocals, but has features to keep the bass intact.
Dub and Dub 3 – TAL (freeware) Two delay plugins, I personaly like the first one best. Use delays as Sends if possible.
Filter and Filter 2 – TAL (freeware) Filter 1 has numerous features including an amplitude envelope and an LFO. Has Lowpass, highpass, and bandpass slopes. The second one has a graphical envelope, lets you draw how it runs.
The Pilgrim – Arctican audio (freeware) A good one-knob filter, turn one way for LP, the other for HP. If yu can map it, it’s good.

I think that’s good for now.

Oh yeah, the Zero SL is kind of a much better bersion of the nocturn. If you can, i might just go for it, given the variety of controls (faders, crossfader, knobs, pads, buttons). The strength of the behringers is the sheer amount of knobs for the BCR and the motorized faders (they can move themselves), but a smarter controller like the SL could be better.
How about a new thread for VST plugins?

in reply to: How well controllers work with new software functions #9140

I’m not sure about Itch, since it’s kind of a hybrid between full and LE, but Traktor, Mixxx, and VDJ (i think) have fairly robust mapping systems, and traktor’s is amazing if you really work it.

in reply to: I need help on picking out a digital Dj setup! #9130

Ok, so the launchpad is probably a must for you. If you want to do FX and stuff, I’d recomend getting the “Traktor’s 12” Fx bundle. Otherwise, if you want, I can give you a list of my favorite freeware VST plugins.
One thing you will want is tactile control: knobs, faders, jogwheels, anything you can manipulate in real time.
So in addition to the controllers I already mentioned, here are some more to check out:
The Behringer BCF 2000 (fader) and BCR 2000 (rotary) are have been around forever, and are great deals for the price.
BCF 2000 (note the motorized faders): http://www.zzounds.com/item–BEHBCF2000
    BCR 2000: http://www.zzounds.com/item–BEHBCR2000
With the right mapping, the AKAI LPD8 could be very powerful, for example it you set each pad to a certain effect, then you hit the pad to select the effect, then turn the knob to change that effects parameters. Do you know how robust the mapping system is in abelton?

Hey man, just as a disclaimer, I dont own all this stuff, but i’ve been reading reviews and watching videos for a fair amount of time.
The X-session is a straight two channel dj mixer lookalike (review http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/computers-software/peripherals/input-devices/midi-controllers/controllers/x-session-pro-21684/review) So if you want a mixer style controller, this might be good. However, for non-conventional DJing (aka using a launchpad :)) it might not be the best route. Do you plan on scratching?
If you dont, I would go with the Nocturn. The 4 knobs + 4 buttons per channel give good control over effects, which you are going to want. (review http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/computers-software/peripherals/input-devices/midi-controllers/controllers/nocturn-143370/review) Another major point for the novation is the automap software, which apparently is very useful, but idk if it’ll work for you.
With regards to effects, if you are using abelton, I might suggest picking up Native instrument’s “Traktor’s 12” (http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/powered-by-guitar-rig/traktors-12/?content=1242) which is some of traktors most famous effects as VST plugins. If you want to “cue” (listen to stuff before the audience hears it) then you need a 4 channel audio card. Otherwise you might make do with just your laptop soundcard. (I’d still recomend upgrading when you get the chance.)
Yeah, the Midi Fighter is pretty neat, and Ean Golden really uses it to it’s fullest.

BTW, do you have a soundcloud or something?

    in reply to: CDJs #9027

A pair CDJ 2000s and a DJM 2000 is over $6000, and if you want 4 CDJs it’s close to $10,000. You could put together an enviable digital setup for that price.
Maybe Traktor scratch pro 2 with a pair of high end stanton turntables, with an S4 as a mixer, then maybe a novation twitch on a stand for extra fun. And include the price of a nice laptop. That’s the kind of set up you could buy.

in reply to: I need help on picking out a digital Dj setup! #1001985

    Hey Travis,
Actually, ean golden has these tracks you can use in traktor with cue points, to sort of live remix songs, you should check out his s2 demo on youtube.
The launchpad is good for mashups, but you’re gonna want some more control.
If you want to go the little-button route, check out livid instrument’s controllers (http://lividinstruments.com/index.php) such as the Ohm64 or OhmRGB (for huge amounts of control) or the Block (which you should definetly check out). Otherwise, you’ll want the launch pad plus something. Preferably somehing with knobs and a crossfader, maybe a M-audio X-session (mixer lookalike) or a Novation Nocturn.
You could also compromise, and use a pad controller. They often only have 16 pads, but also have other knobs and sliders. I’d look into the Akai MPD series or the korg padkontrol (as a note, skrillex uses this type of controller in hs set up.) These have nice, big, whackable, rubber pads, and are often nice to use. If you dont need velocity messages or rubber pads, Ean Golden’s Midi Fighter is an interesting choice, using 16 high-quality arcade buttons.
On the other hand, you could combine a launchpad/other pad controller/whatever with an Analog Mixer. (BTW, Skrillex uses a pad controller with an analog mixer)
Now, with this, you dont use Abelton’s crossfader, you output two seperate signals from the computer, and use the mixer. If the mixer you choose doesnt have one built in, you’ll need a 4 channel soundcard.
For a mixer with soundcard, check out the DJTech X10, reviewed here (http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/07/dj-tech-x10-digital-mixer-review/)
Another mixer that has caught my eye is the Pioneer DJM-250 (http://www.pioneerdjusa.com/gear.aspx?product=DJM-250&cp=3), which doesnt have a soundcard, but gives you one-knob control over Highpass and lowpass filters per channel, which is pretty rare.
Anyways, I hope this helps some, or at least makes sense.
    Good luck on your search!

in reply to: $250 Controller Smackdown #8912

I think there’s a pretty big difference between the $250 i-Mix Reload (which may or may not have a soundcard) and the new DJtech Reloaded (6 deck control with a 4 x 4 soundcard)

in reply to: Pioneer Single Deck Controller #8646

There are two other large format single deck controlers that i know of other than the V7:
The EKS Otus (which is very interesting with tons of features) and the Stanton SCS.1D, which has a motorized platter with unprecedented resolution (i belive i heard it was 4 thousand ticks per revolution, compared to 2 thousand or 1 thousand for timecode)

in reply to: List of DJ controllers! What have I missed? #8645

I think that the korg nanokontrol is at least as good as the X1. It’s 9 sections mean you have 4 faders, 4 knobs, and 8 buttons per deck, plus a crossfader slider and knob plus two buttons for mixer control.

in reply to: List of DJ controllers! What have I missed? #8592

I think the EKS otus might deserve a spot. Midi Fighter pro too maybe.

in reply to: Time coded system without external soundcard? #8575

If you might be willing to change software, Mixxx will work with any soundcard, computer, or timecode, and even has a software preamp if you want to jack your turntable right in.
For $60 you could get a pair of Behringer soundcards and asio4all, essentially a 4 in 4 out DVS solution. (Or just get one, and use your computer soundcard too.)
