I’m so glad CDJs are out, the media could so easily be corrupted and the optical heads could get dirty and so on and so on. USB sticks with media is maybe the common ground just now for most systems.

    Or then use vinyl!

You could always get a used older MacBookPro and replace the internal hard drive with an SSD. Not that those laptops show age so don’t expect huge Ableton Live projects to work well, smaller and decent sized Traktor setups are Ok.

I’m looking at maybe getting a MacBookAir as I think for most purposes such a system has enough hardware power to run Traktor. And they are small/light.

I’ve found a lot of good material on eMusic for a longer time now, most of my digital purchases end up from that site.

You could think of the sync as one-way, so that on your laptop you get the files and do all the metadata (grid) et rest arrangement on this side, this by exporting the iTunes playlist/files into your own Traktor playlist. But yes, you can’t sync back the changes to iTunes, you need to copy the whole playlist via an USB stick or something similar to other devices in case you need the info on those. Basically I collect the material I play on my main laptop and save it off to an USB stick (the playlists NML file and files) and this way keep the data intact.

That option is mostly for arranging the files on your hard drive so that you get bands/artists into separate folder. I don’t know of all the SW out there that assumes too much about the iTunes file system instead of using the xml file for finding the material, but in general there should be no issues to re-arrange the folders, or keep them as they are in case you don’t need this internal re-arranging.

Me thinks iTunes Match is the best that has happened to DJs, I could make various smart and normal playlists wherever I am and sync between various systems and just get the playlists into Traktor on a whim. Especially useful for radio programming. Maybe I’m in a minority.

Well, iTunes to Traktor metadata works in most cases. One gotcha is that you need to play or do something in iTunes to force the internal metadata changes out to the xml file that Traktor is using for sync.
