Back from Afghanistan and retired; now time to invest more time to my set.

I’m a beginner; practicing everyday since April. I watch a lot of you tube videos of DJs scratching great effects. Are there digital effects used for scratching to get that ‘aaahh’ and ‘freeeshh’ effect? The classic stuff done on vinyl.

Lately i’ve been moving tracks over to ITunes, they are normally in the Recenly added folder. Then on Serato Intro I move them into crates with other songs that i plan to mix.

I’m still practicing myself; i’m mixing classic R&B, Hip Hop, instrumental break beats, dancehall and salsa.

I’ve been learning on my controller for 60 days now, two hours a day, after lunch and dinner. Beatmatching, setting up playlist and hot cues have been my priority. I try to scratch every now and then, but taking time to learn all the controller functions. Its good to read a story that similar but more time in it ofcourse.

My new setup while deployed in Afghanistan. What a great way to build up my skills and break away from the madness of the mission.

Kind of got talked into DJing from a friend of mine that has a music service business. I played trumpet from fifth grade through college and then put it down after graduating. I kept bugging my friend that I was going to pick it back up again and would like to play in one of his live bands. He told me he needed a DJ more than a trumpet player, so it went from there. Primarily a wedding dj for the last three years, but would like to start playing chill/lounge music at local bar/restaurants and some electronic dance music later in the evenings. I enjoy a variety of styles of music, but have a passion for house music; particularly deep, progressive, and bossa/jazz genre.

Wow, I got the same equipment coming in as well. Man I hope it works out for the both us. Take care and enjoy.
