I can’t really explain why.Because it’s classy!
I am one of the few who like to mix a lot of Nu Disco, mostly the slower disco with BPM’s ranging between 100 and 120. I just digg those 80’s synths and indie vibes. I often mix that with some deep house along the lines. Most of the time those are chillout mixes. Still working to get a more danceable but still not too speedy nu disco mix.José Reach
MemberThanks! I think there should be something possible. And if not, then maybe mapping on the keyboard of your laptop like ML said is not a crazy idea.

MemberI have tested it just a bit, just from my Kontrol S4. I don’t own any sample controllers. I found it difficult. I don’t understand anything of this whole sample thing. Maybe I’m just a noob on this sample thing, but I couldn’t find any button on the traktor software from direct press-play to let the sample loop constantly.

MemberThanks for the usefull advices! I have more clear directions now. It all comes down to basicly dare to take risks and to take action.
Still before I will take actions, I need some logistic preparation. For example: I probably should find out which places have parties and when. I assume that I should try to contact as many places as possible?
And how do I contact them? Should I just walk straight in a bar, ask the waitress if I can speak to the manager and try to make a deal with him? Or should sent an email to the bar/pub/club first and then try to make an arrangement?

MemberInteresting! I’m sleepy, so I’m going to check your mixes tomorrow. I’m intrigued by your latin house mixes and your large list of music. Where do you find al this music? (Especialy the Latin house. I want to make a latin mix my own but it’s hard to find decent latin house music).

I bought myself a Kontrol S4 in december, but it was a busy period. My family had discouraged me to buy it, as they rather see me hard working at college than DJing. I decided that it I live my life and still chose to buy it, but deep down I still felt the resistance which brought the fun down.
It took me a while to install everything decently with upgrades from traktor. I had distortion problems with my controller, wich I fixed few days later by turning the internet network off. I wasn’t used to a controller like that, it was new to me to play with 4 decks and samples decks.Beside of that, the unboxing part, when I holded it in my hand for the first time, the smell of a new controller, to see it completely clean without dust, scratches or finger prints, to feel the knobs and the jogs with my hand, … that was just awesome! Knowing that you own the most awesome and powerfull digital controller on the market and playing music with it made me feel powerfull.

I agree with that. You can get away with more in a loud venue. Because of the volume you hear the mistakes less.

MemberI rather not try to pull the knobs off. In any case, it’s not as easy as the VCI 400.

MemberI was also thinking along those lines, but I think I’m going after a midi keyboard after I have one of those launchpads.
At the moment, I just want to be creative with mixes I make and give some personality in it by using samples and other stuff.José Reach
MemberGot some great advices guys. I get what you mean with flattery, and it makes sense that you should aim for the people that are willing to listen to your tracks.
I always make my mixtapes downloadable. It was favoured by 2 people and got 40 listeners in 3 days, which I don’t find bad when I take in account that I only have 22 followers, and that I don’t pay for Soundcloud. But none downloaded it unfortunately.

MemberDon’t worry it’s something I can’t stand as well!
The point is, if you don’t produce your own music, people are just going to see you as dude number 1.000.000 who uploads a new mixtape. Now I don’t think my mix is that superficial, i think it’s pretty good, but it’s realy hard to promote. Also, do you think that paying for Soundcloud to upgrade it would help? I would pay those 25 euro’s, but unfortunately, I don’t have Visa or Mastercard.
At the moment, the only thing I think I can do is to post my mixes on facebook, groups there and let them join one group at Soundcloud. It’s not very effective but it’s the least I can do I guess.

MemberNow I’m kind of looking all over the internet, I see there are tons of samples out there. But where to start actualy?
I know this is a very broad question. But what if I have a kontrol S4, and I want to produce some kind of my own music, like making a mash-up between disco and house or down tempo, what kind of loops will I need? What are some basic loops that I should have?José Reach
MemberOh I just saw you took the Mixtrack pro. My bad! Enjoy it!

MemberAsk a dj friend of yours if they have a DJ program like traktor on a CD, and if you may install it on your computer, that way you’ll spare money on program.
In your case, I would chose between these 3 options:
Mixtrack Pro is a decent beginners device. This is usefull if you don’t want to invest a lot and want to look if djing is for you.
Traktor s2, is a very good controller. Appart from many features, it’s easy to use, professional and comes with a perfect program (traktor pro 2) and has a very good audio quality. I’m also guessing that in the near future, Native Instruments will release the Kontrol X2 which could be attached to your S2 controller which will allow you to use pads to cross the thin line between mixing and producing music. The Traktor S2 is at the expensive extreme edge of being affordable though.
The Novation Twitch is a cool thing. It allows you to do more than the standard starter controller, it’s creative, comes with traktor, professional while it is affordable. It only has no jogs. I would call this the midway.
A beginners controller is good if you still don’t know if DJing is for you, and you don’t want to invest a lot. The risk is that these controllers might bore you easily after you found out how it works, which may cause you to eager for a better controller or cause you to quit DJing.
Or you can spend more money for the S2, which is also easy to learn on, but which is also usefull if you want to go beyond the beginners phase. It will cost you more money, but because of the reasons above, you will be more invested and involved.
Or you can chose the midway and go for the Twitch. Not long ago I had to make the kind of same decision as you have to do. In the end, I went the expensive way and chose for the Traktor Kontrol S4. I don’t regret it.
