ParticipantI would also go with the N4 if you have the extra money. There’s more room for your improvements because of its possibilities, so you don’t have to go out and buy another controller, because you need more features.

ParticipantThere’s no such thing as a “best controller” for that’s the same for everyone. It all depends on your requirements. Are you gonna be a bedroom DJ? What in / outputs do you need? Do you want 4 decks or only 2 decks + 2 virtual decks? .. ASO.
Maybe you like the Denon MC3000 (very good quality) or maybe the Numark N4 is something for you. You have to tell us more details, so we can help you better 😉Jonas Werder
ParticipantADHDJ: How about a Numark V7 or something like Denon DN SC 2000 instead of a real CDJ? – I wanted to buy the Denon MC6000 but I am also thinking about buying a Denon DX1600 with 2 Denon DN SC 2000 and use Traktor with it (since timecode upgrade would only cost me $119 with that set-up).

ParticipantThank you very much for the information! Good luck to everyone who participates! 🙂

ParticipantThe S4 does not work without a laptop. That’s what I like so much about the “standalone mixer function”. You can easily just use it as a hybrid set up with 2x CDJs and 2x Midi Channel and you are prepared for a laptop crash. Sure, you may not need that, but if you do, it’s there.

ParticipantThank you guys for your input so far. Anyone has tested the Behringer Eurolive B215D?
That also looks like an interesting deal: http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pa502a_aktives_fullrangesystem.htmJonas Werder
ParticipantIt depends on the unit that you are looking at. There are quite a few CDJs that can be linked together [via LAN cable for example] and you can use the usb memory drive plugged into CDJ “A” on your CDJ for Deck “B”., in other words: they share one source where music is played from. Examples for these kind of CDJs are Pioneer CDJ900, Denon SC3900 and Reloop RMP3. Hope I could help you a little 🙂

ParticipantOkay, thank you! 🙂

ParticipantPhil, would you say using PA Speakers as Monitors is okay for DJing?
Jonas Werder
ParticipantHey! I’m very interested in this thread, because I’m on a budget and I could buy KRKs or PA Speakers. I want to be a mobile DJ so maybe I would buy the PA speakers instead of monitor speakers (also to mix at home), because that way I could save money and have a better start, since I could do little gigs with them to get more money to buy monitor speakers later on. I’d be glad if you keep me up-to-date with your decision!

ParticipantHey! Did you think about the S2? It’s US$559 and should be the best offer I guess. Software is included (otherwise you would have to spend more money) and you can do a lot of different things with this controller. If you want something else that’s cheaper, the Numark Mixtrack Pro would be another good choice.

ParticipantHow about that: http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_cl_106112_basis_bundle.htm It looks pretty decent. Does anyone have experience with this bundle?

ParticipantHere is a big list of songs (house, electro, dubstep, etc.): http://soundcloud.com/tags/electro-house?page=1 . Just look for the songs where it says “Download” and listen to them. If you like it you can download them for free. Another good way to find more music that you like is to follow Record labels like “Spinnin Records” (That’s one that I like) on Facebook or youtube so you can build up your music library. If you really don’t know where to start you better listen to all the different styles of music though. Maybe start off with a song that you like on youtube and look on the sidebar for other songs that you may also like. (I hope that it doesn’t irritate you that I only use the house electro examples, but that’s just what I like)

ParticipantHey Rick! Do really want to start out with a CDJ set up? You could buy a controller like the S2 and get the same or even more out of it for less money (That’s the digital way though).
For the music you should check out youtube and look for songs that you like and buy them at websites like http://www.beatport.com or get them from iTunes. Another great website for music is http://www.soundcloud.com. You can find all kinds of music there and some songs are even for free and you can download them from the website.
I would buy something like the Reloop RHP-10 Headphone if you want some headphones that aren’t very expensive.
For your “home set up” you can use speakers that you already have at home. If you want to buy something only for the bedroom you could look at the Reloop ADM5 or the M-Audio AV40’s.PS: Hurry up if you want to buy the S2. It’s on sale until March 31st and Traktor Pro2 is included. So your entire bedroom set up would cost about 610 Euros. Maybe add 40 Euros for some decent songs to start out.

ParticipantHow about a S2/ Denon MC3000 / Reloop Jockey III Master Edition or maybe the Pioneer ERGO and additionally buy an Allen & Heath Xone:K2? It’s a little bit pricey but I think you could use it for a long time. (I listed all the controllers so you can decide which one you like best, but I’d prefer the Denon MC3000)
Here’s the link to the review of the Allen & Heath Xone:K2 from Digital DJ Tips: http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2012/03/review-video-allen-heath-xone-k2-dj-midi-controller/
Hope I could help a little bit 😉
