    Hi guys,

Once again, thanks for your advices, which ultimately made me go for a laptop with a controller.

I ended up getting myself a rock solid Lenovo, rather tough laptop, with an SSD. I then got rid of the optical drive, and added a normal HHD as my second hard drive with lots of space on, which if course it backed up regularly.

I also got my hands on a DDJ-SX2, and that is probably the best decision I have ever made dj-wise, it’s an absolute dream to work on, and the knobs, the platters, the whole feel is in lack of other words, amazing. As a side-effect, it is also really fun to use, and along with Serato DJ it’s sublime.

As you can tell I’m a happy man – and Christmas is going to my a little more fun than last year…
    Merry Christmas, guys.

    J.

What Vintage said is right on the money. Be yourself, play the tunes you think are awesome and do it with style. Also as Scotto said, it’s very important to be presentable, professional and polite. The triple-P.

There is nothing more satisfying than being called up again, because you made a good impression in all three factors. I was never the technically skilled DJ, but I usually go my jobs based on who I was and the music I played. Not my skills – however basic DJ skills are naturally quite important, but I trust that you already got that part checked. πŸ™‚

What I find odd, is that I first write a post, thinking that I know exactly what I want, and then with advice from people, I found it that I actually had no clue. That is why I have set my mind for a DDJ-SX2 and a new laptop.

Thanks everybody for your input and advice.

Vintage, are you still using the SC2900s?

I have been looking through pages, and pages online and seriously, I have a hard time wanting to pay THAT much money for the XDJ-1000. I can ALMOST get two SC2900s for the price of one XDJ-1000, and when I read the reviews, the SC2900s are still awesome, even to these day’s standards.

So what are your take on the SC2900. Are they still worth buying in 2015, regardless of the In-Music takeover?

On a side note, I am actually also considering the SX2, at it seems to be quite a good device. For my budget, I can even buy a brand new laptop to go with it.

The cheap solution could be, that you get an RCA cable splitter and connect the mixer to your laptop via the minijack.

I don’t know if you could use the Denon DS1 interface with the 800s and connect to to Serato DJ or Scratch Live and record it that way.

    It’s worth a search I guess. πŸ™‚

Thanks for your answer, I think you’re right. I have also come to the conclusion that the XDJ-RX and the XDJ-1000 are the best options available at the moment. I was considering the SC2900 from Denon at one point, but as they have pretty discontinued the player and not coming up with an alternative, I’ve taken it out of my consideration.

At one point I took a glance (online) at the Gemini MDJ-1000, which at first didn’t look too shabby, but the lack of reviews (of any kind), have also made me look towards the aforementioned Pioneers.

Thanks for the heads up on the 2900s. I wasn’t aware of that. I’ll take that into consideration πŸ™‚

Regarding the 700s, then I meant that I don’t like the size of the jog wheels. They seem rather small. Sorry for not being clear on that one. That seems also to be the case with the RX, I know, but the all-in-one solution has some advantages I believe.

    Hey Giles,

    Thanks for your answer. πŸ™‚

Yes, the linking issue is something I’ve had in mind when choosing gear. And I think that Rekordbox might be the way to go for me. Even though the SC2900’s from Denon are really nice, I do think that I might take a leap of faith, and try out Pioneer.

I have looked at the XDJ-700, but I don’t like the feel of the jog wheel. I know the jog wheel on the RX is smaller than the one on the XDJ-1000, and the fact that the RX only has two channels and no possibility of adding a third device, is of some concern to me. But you’re right, the RX looks really, really nice.
