Michael Fuchs, post: 6203 wrote: I too am looking for a good starter controller, but the thing is, although I want something rich in features, I feel the Mixtrack is a little to toy-like for me due to the plastic build. So although it is a great starter controller at an unbelievable price, I think I might have to go with the Kontrol x1 because it is far more appealing to me, more portable, and I don’t think I would use the jog wheels anyway. So what I’m looking at getting is the Kontrol x1 w/case and the Akai Pro LPD8 controller, which appears to be a cheap, sensible option with a decent build and just the right amount of controls. The thing is, I can always get the Mixtrack if I decide I no longer want the x1 because it has a great resale value, which allows me a lot of freedom in the future. I’m still deciding though, so any input would be much appreciated.

You’ll also have to think about a soundcard too if you want the ability to cue your tracks/use an external mixer at some point later. At least this is reasonably cheap, as, say, an Audio 2 soundcard is $100, and you could then spend another $100 on a cheap external mixer. Then you’d have a killer setup (minus jog wheels) for almost the same price as a Mixtrack Pro. Check out Chris’s (photojojo) setup – he has something similiar with 2 X1’s and a BIG A&H mixer 😀

Remind me never to challenge you to a controller battle. It looks like things might get ugly! 😮

    Here it is:

    FX_SELECT_BTN
    toggle “filter-effect”

    FX_PARAM_1
    var “filter-effect” ? param_multiply 0.7% & filter : param_multiply 1% & effect slider 1

Simply copy and paste the lines into VDJ’s mapper for the FX_SELECT_BTN & FX_PARAM_1 for both decks. You might be able to use the other FX knob to map a key changer button as well.

I did this a little while ago with my Mixtrack. I used the unused press function of the effect select button to toggle FX knob 1 from effect to filter. I’ll see if I can find the code for it….

I notice a few people have BCD3000’s (or did, in Lew’s case). Just wondering, what was the appeal of the BCD over a more conventional set-up?

I ask as when I got into DJing (a few years back) I was tossing up between the BCD and CDJ100s. I went with the CDJs, but what was the draw of the BCD for the rest you you?

It’s just like hitting the cue button on the wrong deck – 5 seconds after the music re-starts, they crowd has completely forgotten…..

(and not that I’ve ever done that )

VDJ script, ewww. I much prefer Traktor mapping – it’s so much clearer what you can and can’t do. Hower, VDJ script does support motorized platters…

I’m starting to agree with you on this one. From the lack of booth monitors at this gig, to the crappy monitors at a friends gig last night. However I still use my old studio cans, which have terrible isolation (but awesome sound) and I currently have a distinct lack of money after just ordering myself a S4, so new cans aren’t high on the to buy list right now (although I’ll probably spend my money on custom earplugs first – cant replace ears!)

Thanks to all who gave feedback on this, it’s really appreciated!

Less of a DJ, yes. Less of a producer, no. As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, the only time you should throw on a pre-mixed set is for a dunny break or if there’s technical problems.

DJ Stone Crazy, post: 5866 wrote: Like it has been before in this thread, I wouldn’t work with the promoter again. When I promoted other DJs in the past, I at least had an idea of how they’re sets was going to sound. Either the promoter is new in the game or don’t know what he’s doing.

That’s my opinion too, the few promoters I’ve dealt with in the past at least listen to what style you tell them you play, and try to construct the sets around that. I think this guy was more focused on getting numbers in the door and thought that “oh yeah, the DJs can play the music” or something.

But at the end of the day, a gig is a gig (especially if it’s a paying one) and I need all the gigs I can get – more experience! And also, I’m learning how to DJ differently – here as a warm-up DJ, which might get me gigs in bigger clubs at some point.

Stefano – change the type of cue point from a Grid (which it is now) to a Load cue point. That way Traktor will start on that cue point instead.

Maschine is simply a MIDI controller, it has no soundcard at all.

As far as using the NS6 to record samples, I simply dont know as I dont actually own the Maschine software.

Try looking on the Native Instruments forums as they usually have some good info on what you genrally can/cant do.
